My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Notes: Note 12-15-05 Charo is in foster care with Gerry. She has been tested with children, cats, dogs. She does very well, just takes her a few moments to warm up to folks. She waits patiently for her fur-ever home.

10-22-05 Charo arrived in rescue from a breeder that does a very good job socializing the dogs. She was received very clean, appears free of parasites. Yeah!!

Charo is 3 yrs old. We were told that she ate her babies, thus released from the breeding program.

Charo is very social about the house. She gets along with the other dogs and the resident cat does not seem to interest her. She has already put her paws on our knees to be picked up! Initially a bit shy, she now come eagerly for petting. She settles down in your arms very quickly.

Charo & Lucia arrived together and look almost exactly like Cisco & Poncho, 2 older chi's that were surrendered to a shelter, then transferred to us, then reunited with their original owner. At that time, Shirley thanked us & said she would pray that we would be blessed for our kindness. She loved her boys, had become ill, yet realized that life without her dogs was unbearable.
Marti took one look at Charo & Lucia and immediately repeated the blessing Shirley had bestowed upon us. The Lord has now entrusted us with the awesome responsibility to find terrific homes for 2 young, healthy chi's. We will do our best for His fur-kids.

Note: 10-23-05 Basic vaccinations have been given plus a routine wormer.
Note: 10-24-05 Charo weighs 4.7 lbs., has been microchipped with AVID by Doc Anstaett.

Update 10-28-05 Charo was spayed by Doc Johnson. She is H/W, Lyme, Ehrlichia neg., Rabies, dentals were done with extractions.
Charo weighs 4 3/4 lbs., heart ok, knees ok.
Doc commented on how clean Charo & Lucia were, ears clean, free of parasites, obviously very good care by the breeder that released them to us.
Charo & Lucia were both placed with foster mom Marti for post-op surgical care for the next 24 - 48 hours.
Charo & Lucia are both crate trained and paper trained.
Note 10-29-05 Marti advises us that both girls are doing quite nicely. Marti confirms that Charo is the most outgoing. Lucia is rather shy and quiet. Both seem to be getting around quite nicely, not in a lot of discomfort.
Note 11-01-05 Marti has just advised us that both girls have settled in and now their personalities are changing. Lucia has become more outgoing and Charo is becoming more reserved. Both are eager for affection and enjoy being held.
Note 11-02-05 Charo is back in the sanctuary so Marti can give Lucia sole attention.

Note 11-06-05 Charo visited the Good Samaritan Care Center to show off her pretty little coat. Some of the residents and staff members held her. She is still a bit fearful of strangers and loud noises or sudden movements. She needs more social time and lots of patience.

Note 11-13-05 Charo went to spend a couple of days with volunteers Priscilla, Jerry, Elijah (4) and Forrest (6) to work on her social skills and meeting new people.
Priscilla and family are turns with the dogs here so they may be safely evaluated with children.
Update 11-14-05 from Priscilla -
Dear Judy,
We have had Charo for a day and I am pleasantly surprised. She has really settled in and, believe it or not, will let us walk up to her and pet her.
This morning she jumped up on the couch (with the help of a stepstool) when Elijah called to her and let him hold her and even carry her to me. She is improving her leash walking with every try but still needs alot of practice.
She also needs potty training work, now that we can approach her this should be easier to try.
How is Jaxs? Did he do well in the house for you? I really miss my little guy. He is a lovey little guy.
Thank you for this chance to visit with all the little animals.
All of us (including Jerry (who calls Charo "his little girl" and insists on holding her at all times possible...but he does not like those little yapper dogs) have enjoyed the chance to spend time with them.
Priscilla
PS
You would not believe how she just lets the kids pick her up and carry her around. She finally barked...not your normal high pitched chihuahua bark. She is excellent with the kids!

Note 11-19-05 Charo spent Christbaumfest at Maxwell's Woodcarving shop, Buzzard Roost, in Cole Camp. Mitch, a young man, held her several times, felt her relax in his arms after just a few moments. Several customers came in and asked to hold her, also feeling her relax in their arms.
Charo is doing quite nicely on the leash, yet she is so small it is just tempting to carry her. We must let her walk more to improve her confidence and for the exercise.

Note 11-22-05 Charo weighs 4 1/2 lbs. She rode along as we took Candy & Peaches to Dr. Johnson.
Charo has also been registered with 24PetWatch.

Note 11-28-05 from Priscilla, who again took Charo home for an overnight so she could have social time with her 4 & 6 yr. old boys--
Dear Judy, Good news for Charo!!! Her potty training potential is excellent. She has gone potty outside every time since she got here last night, which is a tremendous improvement for her. We watch for her signs. She will start pacing and then walk around in circles. We take her out when she starts circling. Sometimes she walks around outside for a while but then she will do her business.

Note 12-08-05 We have followed the advice of Priscilla. Charo is taken out when she starts to circle on the papers, she does her duty, then immediately returns inside.
With this cold weather, snow, we are thankful she is both paper trained and potty trained. She must be taken out on a reguar schedule, alert to her circle signal, no accidents in the house. Yeah!!

Update 12-11-05 Charo is now spending time with foster mom Gerry. There are 3 other small dogs residing in the house. Art feels 4 dogs in the house are too much, yet they are all rather small, not even all 4 make one large dog!

Note 12-13-05 A phone call to Gerry and so much laughter. Charo is settling in nicely, sleeping in her playpen at night. The bed was too crowded for all 4 dogs.
Gerry does find it challenging taking 16 little paws outside to do their duty in the cold.

Update 12-15-05 from Gerry -
Judy, The little girl is doing just fine, owns the whole place, just ask her!!!!!!!! She is very quiet and quite busy checking out the place. The other three are upstairs sleeping on the bed and Charo made herself at home on a bed beside the computer.
She eats well , sleeps well, so I guess she is well! She is a sweetie.. Till next time,

Addt'l note 12-15-05 from Gerry-
Judy, Little Charo went to school yesterday to help pick Forrest up. WOW!!!!!!!!!! She is not too sure that she likes all that attention. A wee bit overwhelming to the little girl. Earlier in the day she rode in the pouch carrier and picked up the mail. But she really is not too fond of the cold, even though she was wearing her sweater and was protected inside my coat! Little wimp! ha

She keeps working on Peso to try to get him to play. I don't know if he is afraid to play for fear he is too big, but he is still resisting. Boy you should hear her bark then! And Penny let her know that SHE is still QUEEN around here, so Charo gives her plenty of room now.
Cute little 4 legged people!!!!!!! Gotta run,
Gerry (Charo on lap)
Update 12-18-05 from foster mom Gerry -
Charo doesn't answer to anything we have called her - just goes to her own drummer unless there is people food being fixed or around - then she is sure to be under foot, whether called or not! Sleeps good in her play pen, but makes sure we know she would rather not when first put in there! Rotten to the core!...

Update 12-20-05 from Gerry, now nicknaming Charo as Charlie -
Judy, So sorry I have not gotten a note off to you before now. Well, it is a good thing, Charlie seems to be happy here and little ones do really frighten her. She has made herself at home, knows her pecking order, if her memory fails her for a short span, one of the others will remind her! HA Peso, being the macho man that he, lets her eat his food and I have seen him deliver his milkbone personally to her! She is a precious little thing and goes nitey-nite like an angel in her pen, the rest of the day she shares a bed with anyone of the others. And such a cute little rear end going down the stairs!! GEE, all these personalities to deal with.
