My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our Winter White hamsters are small, but wonderful, little pets. They are best by themselves as they are territorial. Fights usually happen in groups of them. They are quiet pets, but they will give a little squeak every now and then just to let you know they're still there. We have both males and females, but we will only adopt groups of the same sex.

Winter White hamsters are small, fast hamsters, but ours are pretty used to having human contact. They do not mind being handled if they have room to just walk along your flat hand, but as soon as you close your hand around them they will try to get away and can easily fall, or even give you a small bite if they feel very threatened. It is best to handle these hamsters close to the ground and over something padded where there is a short distance in case they fall, and where they would fall onto something padded. But make sure they are enclosed in something in case they do fall from your hands, because they run fast and love to hide!

All our hamsters came to us from the seizure of 27,000 animals from US Global Exotics in Arlington, TX, in December 2009. They entered our custody in February and have been properly cared for ever since. They are now happily awaiting adoption!
