Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lulu is about 5-7 yrs old. She is a very sweet, small, Rough Blue Merle Collie. She has unusually pretty coloring and will probably always retain that special cute "puppy look." Her coat is medium length and very easy to brush. (Well, as easy as it can be for a Collie!) She is something of a home-body and prefers hanging out in the house with her foster family to just about everything else. She is shy but is becoming more confident with time. Her house training is coming along nicely and she walks pretty well on a leash. She gets along very well with the other dogs, cats, and rabbits in her foster home and loves to play. In fact, she is the instigator of play. How? By stealing their chew toys and making them chase her to get them back! She is extremely quiet, has no bad habits, and is really no trouble at all. The only time Lulu usually barks is when she sees her foster mom. She wags her tail and barks as if to say "Hi, I'm sure glad to see you!" She wants so much to be loved, that she forgets she is scared and comes up for petting with the other dogs. Then she is easily won over with "ear rubs," and rewards you with a big smile. We would like Lulu to live with another gentle dog companion. She is capable of establishing a very close bond with people once she trusts them. We hope someone will accept and love her as she is and continue to help her blossom and become comfortable with the world.
Lulu is one of the Yolo County Dogs, recently liberated from a 14 month long legal battle, and now free to find her "person" or "people" who will treat her with the love and care she deserves. Like all the Yolo County Dogs, she is very shy but is becoming more confident every day. These dogs were raised in an environment from the time they were puppies in which they had little contact with people and had no idea what it was like to live the life of a pampered pet. They are so thankful and appreciative of every kindness they receive, but it's going to take some degree of patience while that true Collie temperament continues to emerge. Already having come a long way under the care of volunteers, Lulu has made amazing progress while in her foster home for the past couple of months. Still, she will need lots of love and a calming influence to help her continue to blossom and become comfortable in our world. Because of Lulu's exceptionally underprivileged background, we cannot place her in a home with children. Updated - 01.17.06
