My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lacey has lived outside most of her life, with a large group of other cats. She came to Safe Shelter just to be spayed, but became so tame that we kept her. This girl absolutely loves being petted now! The clinic vet estimated her age at about 3 years. Lacey is now spayed, has has rabies and distemper shots, and has combo tested negative. 814 485 1579 for more information.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters physically meet the animal, and me. The person or couple is interviewed in person, a vet reference is checked (if possible), and I visit the home, tour inside and outside, ask any additional questions necessary, meet any live-in family members yet unmet, and sleep on my final decision. The next day I will call with a decision - either way. The adoption fee for a dog is $50, for a cat, $30. The adoption contract includes a takeback policy - in effect for the entire life of the animal- and the right to visit, with notice, and to raclaim the animal in the case of neglect or abuse.

Go meet their pets

We have just started occationally showing animals at Tractor Supply in Lavale MD. The big fundraiser each year is a yard sale in Flintstone and if I have enough volunteers I try to bring some of the shelter animals to show.

More about this shelter

Safe Shelter has been up and running for 16 years. I worked for a year at a large, long-running, widely respected no-kill shelter and this inspired me to try it myself. It is a small, low-budget operation that could really use some volunteer and foster help!
