My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, my name is Rio! I'm a beautiful German Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and loyalty. I have a gentle soul and love to spend time with my human friends, but I have a bit of anxiety when it comes to being left in a crate. I need a home with a yard that is secure and has a sturdy fence so I can run and play without any worries.

I love to go on walks and spend time outdoors. I'm an energetic pup who loves to play and run, but I also have a soft side and love to cuddle up with my human friends. I'm a quick learner and already know some basic commands like. I'm eager to learn more and be the best dog I can be for my new family.

I'm looking for a forever home where I can feel safe and loved. I'm also looking for a family who is experienced with dogs and understands that I may need a little extra patience and love as I work through my anxiety.

If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion, look no further! I'm here and ready to be a part of your family. I promise to fill your days with love, joy, and endless tail wags. Let's start

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our application process helps us determine which animal will best suit your lifestyle, wants and needs. We consider all apsects when placing our rescues, including an animal’s temperament, activity level and the animal’s socialization with other animals and people. It is important to us here at ARCC that our rescues find the right homes. We will work with you to make sure the dog or cat you choose is the best fit for you and your home.

Your New Pet:

All adoptable pets at ARCC have already been spayed or neutered, as well as micro-chipped and dewormed. They are current on vaccinations and other necessary medical care. While all animals have been thoroughly checked by our veterinarians, we cannot guarantee the health of any animal.

Qualifications:

All persons must be 18 years of age or older to adopt a pet. You must bring photo identification and every member of your household needs to be present. In addition, if you plan to adopt a dog and already have a canine family member, you must bring him or her along for a meet and greet. If you rent your home, you must bring a copy of your lease stating that you are permitted to keep pets in your residence.

ARCC cannot guarantee that the pet you are interested in adopting or will submit an application to adopt will be available upon completion and approval of your application.  We process applications on a first come first served basis but we do NOT place our dogs based on this system. We reserve the right to deny any application at our discretion.  We do not limit adoptions to any particular geographic area and, in most cases, you can leave with your new best friend the same day you visit us!

Adoption Fees:

Adoption fees are charged to help us offset some of our costs for caring for the many animals that will pass through our doors each year. They help us to ensure that animals are in good health, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and loved. Fees to adopt individual pets can vary by the type of animal, age, & adoption location. In general, dog adoption fees range from $125 – $150. The vast majority of dogs have an adoption fee of $125. Cat adoption fees can range from a donation to $60 - $125 and small animals/reptiles are $25 to $75.  We may offer specials or discounts at special events, or on occassion waive adoption fees in lieu of a donation. Adoption specials at our shelter will be posted on our social media pages.

The Application Process:

1. Browse through and read about our adoptable pets on Petfinder.com.  Once you think you've found a match submit the adoption application.  (We currently only have dogs/puppies for adoption and hope to have cats/kittens in the future.)

2. Within the next 24 to 72 hours you will receive confirmation that your adoption application submission has been received. (please remember ARCC is an all-volunteer organization, so please be patient.)

3. A veterinarian reference check is conducted if you currently have or had pets in the past.

4. If you lease or rent your home, a letter or e-mail from the owner/management is required and verified.

5. If the application is approved, we conduct a meet and greet/home vist for every potential adopter, ensuring the animal will be living in a safe environment. Upon a successful meet and greet/home visit, a contract is signed by you and ARCC stating that you will give your new dog or cat a loving and safe home.

**Important**

After adopting an ARCC pet, if at any time you are unable to keep the pet, it is stated in the adoption contract that the pet MUST be returned to ARCC.  The animal may not be transferred to friends or family, nor taken to a shelter.

We are fortunate to be PetSmart Charities Partners and often take our dogs to two different PetSmart locations in Lubbock, Texas as well as to Tractor Supply Company adoption events in Plainview, Texas.

More about this rescue

ARCC was founded in January, 2015 by a group of concerned and determined citizens.  This caring group of people came together from Lorenzo, Ralls, and Crosbyton with various backgrounds, personalities, and views, but all with the same common goal; to make a difference in the lives of the high number of discarded, neglected and unwanted pets in Crosby County.

We are an all volunteer program.  We received our nonprofit 501(c)(3) status on April 28, 2015 and in early May 2015 we received a generous donation of land from friends of the rescue, Jim and Mary Parkhill. Slowly but surely we have built up our facilities and continue to make improvements. We can can house approximately 30-35 dogs and are often completely full.
