Winterberry is an absolutely wonderful young lady, looking to find her true forever home. She's had a bit of bad luck in her short years, but that luck is about to change!
Winterberry is as sweet as they come, she's never met a human she doesn't love! She's social, outgoing, and loves to engage. If you pick up a ball, she's your instant new best friend! And the stories she'll tell you, oh the stories! She definitely has character ;)
She has excellent ball and toy drive, strong food drive, and prey drive. She has an affinity to water, and though it's the wrong season, I can't keep her from dipping in her toes! I suspect dock diving will be right up her alley, and she has the versatility to enjoy a wide variety of canine activities; agility, lure coursing, Rally-O, maybe even flyball! She's game to try them all!
Winterberry is currently in a foster home, and her love for cats has been reaffirmed! With proper structure and intros, she is 100% fine to live with cats. She is dog social with proper intros, but does have a penchant for small dogs on leash. She has had two previous incidences grabbing a small dog while on leash so it's very important her new home continues with her training, to keep everyone safe. She is doing fantastic working on her impulses in this regard but it is something that will always need to be managed.
Winterberry is an absolute gem, and with her very sweet personality, she's sure to win your heart! Please message to start the application process, if she sounds like the dream girl missing from your life!
Recent notes from her foster mom!:
"Fostering Winterberry has been the most incredible, fun, heart-filling adventure. The quickest thing we found out on day 1 is how easy she has been in our home. She is honestly one of the most solid, level-headed dogs I have met. She loves her people (well, every person she basically meets, adult and child alike), she has been amazing with our two dogs; being able to switch from rough-and-tumble with our younger dog, to being very respectful and gentle with our older dog.
Ball, stick, or toy, she will love you forever after the first throw. And although she has trouble remembering to drop it close to you, she doesn’t guard or refuse you if you want it again (we are working on the “drop” command on cue).
Treat and food motivated for sure! And let us not forget her love for all things water! Ponds, pools, lakes! She would never pass up a chance to take a dip! And we can always count on her to tell us all the stories when we get home from being away for the day, or even when we greet her in the morning.
What we have found that is one (out of her many) amazing qualities is that she has such a great off-switch. She can go from running for a ball for hours to playing with her four-legged friends, to snuggling up on a dog bed or in her crate.
She has been doing really well with her interactions with other dogs and we have never had an incident that couldn’t be easily corrected or distracted from. With proper dog introductions, she gets along with almost every dog. We haven’t seen/had the opportunity yet to see if she is better/same with small dogs close-up, but walking past hasn’t provoked a response yet.
The newest things we have introduced her to are rollerblading and the e-collar. We have taken her rollerblading on roads as well as on paved trails with minimal distractions and she’s done great! We will be introducing her to busier paths with the rollerblades soon but for now we are just letting her get the feel of being able to run full tilt but controlled. E-collar training is very new but so far she has done really well. Again, we will be working on growing this training with her and wish for her new forever family to do the same.
She is such a loveable, quirky, adorable, beautiful soul that anyone would be so lucky to have her become part of their family.”
