Here's what the humans have to say about me:
** VIDEO AVAILABLE- THIS DOG IS LOCATED ON LONG ISLAND **
Oakley is dog that was adopted this past September by a local family. He is a mix of breeds, possibly lab, possibly Golden.
Before that, he was found wandering in a rural community in Louisiana. A family there allowed him to stay at their home, and for 3 months they treated him like a family member. They fed him and loved him and enjoyed his company. However, they also realized that caring for a dog cost more than they could currently afford. They reached out to NYSRR and we stepped up to help.
Now, after 5 months with his current adoptive family, they are asking that we find this boy a new home.
OAKLEY is very loyal and affectionate to the mother, who is his primary caretaker and is home all day with him. He has started to get became protective of her - even with the other family members. They feel he needs a new home that will be a better fit for everyone.
Due to his possessive nature - we would recommend a home without children. He will need an experienced owner that will work with him. The owners have not reached out for a trainer - but we will provide a professional evaluation with one.
This boy is barely a year old - gets along well with other dogs. Oakley loves sticks and balls, and to run, run, RUN- so a home with a fenced yard would be wonderful. Housebroken, uses his crate at night, not a counter-surfer, and trained not to go on the furniture, Oakley is a good boy.
