My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In Minden, Nevada - Hi world, meet Bowie ! This adorable two-year old 30 lb border collie/catahoula is your future dream dog. He is smart, loving, rarely barks, and is completely biddable. There are truly no negative attributes to be given to this good boy! Pictures do not do justice- he’s quite a looker, too…Just a bit camera shy.

Bowie came to us after being picked up in Wells, NV and transferred to a high kill shelter in Elko. He was underweight, dirty, cold, and frightened. He warmed very quickly to his foster mom and dad as well as his furry kitty and Aussie siblings. He will develop trust quickly to anyone who shows him affection. That said, while Bowie is gaining confidence and is polite around children (whom he has only met on leash), he is hand-shy and will settle better in a home without young and erratic children.

Bowie learns very, very quickly- he definitely has border collie brains. He learned his name immediately, and knows sit, stay, come, and his recall is fabulous. He is learning place and is making eye contact when directed. Leash work is improving but we haven’t practiced outdoors much because of weather. I am certain he can be trained to do anything! He works for treats and praise; he will do anything to please.

Bowie seems simply grateful to be off the streets. We suspect he has been abused in his previous life. He is a submissive guy who deserves tender, patient, loving parents. No harsh words to Bowie. No physical hand on Bowie. He does well enough with redirect, “No” “Leave it” etc. When his tough Aussie siblings are scolded, Bowie cowers and puts himself in his kennel. He is a sensitive guy but he rebounds quickly.

Bowie can run with and keep up with the best of his crazy Aussie siblings but he has a wonderful off switch. Little dude would be happy with any sized yard or even an apartment, as long as he gets lots of cuddles and is provided walks and stimulation. He would probably take well to agility, herding or tricks too if you were so inclined. He’s a really stable dog and will adapt anywhere.

Bowie can be trusted to be left alone without destroying anything. He is also happy in his kennel where he often goes to sleep voluntarily. He can be “Velcro” if you call him for cuddles but he is also an independent dog. He likes bones and chews and is still learning about toys.

He approaches new people and experiences with curious wonder. Sometimes, if something frightens him at first (like car rides) it only takes one trip to the park for him to associate the car with reward. As stated- he’s smart.

Bowie deserves all the love he gives. If you want a beautiful and awesome dog, please put in an application. Located in Minden, NV
