My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tuketu is a shy, laid back elderly fellow in good health - fully vetted, with a little sniffly condition the vet said he’s probably had since birth. He is quiet and polite with excellent litterbox manners, and fine around other cats. He spent many years on the streets near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, always happy to see his caretaker who fed him and the rest of the colony every day. One day last fall, his caretaker trapped him and his remaining friends and brought them to her home when she learned of an illness that would prevent her from traveling to care for them. He especially enjoys the company of his colony friend and foster brother Hototo. It would be great if they could be adopted out together. Tuteku was born around 2007.

Additional adoption info

Once you've filled out an application, we will contact your references and put you in touch with the foster/caregiver of the cat. Once your application is approved, we schedule you to attend a Zoom group seminar on cat care. We invite both novice and experienced alike to attend. Then you would sign the adoption agreement, pay the adoption fee, and make arrangements for the cat to be moved to your home. We always do a home visit which is both reassuring to the cat when it is being introduced and to the foster who has taken care of the cat. Presently we are doing home visits with FaceTime or Zoom to confirm you have secure windows, no toxic plants and a generally safe environment for a cat. The adoption fee is $150 for one cat under 7 years old, $75 for one cat 7 years and older.

All cats have been tested for the Feline Leukemia and FIV virus, vaccinated (FVRCP and Rabies vaccines), microchipped, dewormed and spayed/neutered. If you adopt kittens that are too young to be altered, we will arrange the spay/neuter/microchip at a later date at a partner vet.
