My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

EXPERIENCED ADOPTERS ONLY

Hi, I`m Bindi! I`m a 3 year old girl who was brought in through no fault of my own. I`ve had some trouble adjusting here at the shelter, but staff say they know there`s a sweet girl under this tough exterior. I would do best in a home without children due to my temperamental personality. I`m front declawed, so the only way I have to defend myself is to bite. I would love to co-exist with a nice family in a real home of my own! I would be a very pretty piece of artwork for you to look at roaming around your home. I definitely need attention on my terms. I come to the people for a couple pets and I am set for the rest of the day. I can not live in a home with dogs or other cats. My ideal home would be a calmer, quiet home where I can take the time I need to adjust and acclimate with a patient family who can help me through. I prefer to do things on my own terms, so my future family will need to be understanding of that. Once I have adjusted to a new human, I love to be scratched under the chin and to play toys. I will need visits scheduled and with serious adopters only. If you think you could be the home to allow me to grow and adjust, please ask staff about me and submit an application for me today!

Additional adoption info

We do not work on a first come, first served basis for our animals. We look for the best match between the animal and the family/person looking to adopt. We also will foster adoptable animals in homes in certain cases to make sure that animal is a good fit in that home prior to completing an adoption.

More about this shelter

The Central PA Humane Society (CPHS) was established in 1964. We are a non profit 501c3 who receives no government or national rescue organization funding. We survive solely on grants we apply for, our fundraisers we put on and donations from our community. We are a 'life saving' shelter and only ever euthanize animals that are deemed dangerous to our staff and volunteers. This is after we have tried training, foster homes etc to give that animal every chance at a life outside of the shelter. We do euthanize animal that have life threatening injuries or illness that cannot be medically treated by a veterinarian.

CPHS has a dedicated team of staff and volunteers that cater to every animal in their care. We have enrichment programs for both dogs and cats to enable their time with us to be enjoyable and less stressful. We are very proud of our canine cardio and foster for the day programs than allow dogs to leave our facility and get some time out being walked or simply chilling out in someones home.

Our fundraisers are hugely popular in the community with events such as; Chili Fest, Bikers for Barkers, Paws in the Park, Fur Ball, Chocoholics Night out, Mimosas on the Lake to name a few! These fundraisers are instrumental in helping us look after the nearly 1,800 animals that come through our doors.
