Here's what the humans have to say about me:
COURTESY LISTING: Elizabeth is a 3 year old Newfoundland that we recently adopted from a family in Portland. Her previous owner said she had to give her up due to her increasing allergies to Elizabeth. She had had Elizabeth since she was 8 weeks old. Elizabeth lived with another dog, and several young children in her previous home. Just this week, our Dane was diagnosed with IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia). He just came home from the hospital, and is on an entire battery of drugs, and a very special care plan. He is stable, but not yet out of the woods. In light of his condition, we have decided we unfortunately cannot keep Elizabeth. In the past few weeks, we have learned much about Elizabeth. She has seen our vet, and been started back on vaccination for Lyme. She had a check up, and a thyroid test. She seems to be in very good health. Elizabeth has very good leash manners, and sticks around well when off leash. She is completely housetrained, and has not had any accidents in the house. She also spends time in her crate and doesn't mind. She has been very good with our Dane. They have really enjoyed each other. She shows no signs of food or bone aggression. She allows us to put our hands in her dish while eating, and lets my Dane take her bones from her! She is good with my children, which I expected, as she lived with 6 kids in her last home. She is still learning not to chase the cats! She has a low energy level when indoors, but loves to run and play outside. She is a counter grazer! She absolutely loves food, and she will take a sandwich off the table or counter if you turn your back for even a second. That seems to be her only bad habit. Elizabeth is a grey Newfoundland, and does not have the typical silky smooth Newfie coat. It is shorter, coarse, and grows in sparsely in spots, like on her back. Her previous owner says that she has been this way since she was a puppy. She is ALL Newfie with the drool! She also has a slight cherry eye (when the gland pops out from the lower eyelid). It was operated on twice at the vet in South Portland, but it has come back out each time. My vet and I agree that it is best not to have it altered again (or removed, and risk dry eye), as it is not affecting her health or vision in any way. She is certainly not a beauty queen, but she makes up for it in personality. She really is just a sweet girl. Elizabeth is spayed and up to date on her shots. Her adoption fee will be $200.
