My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We do not promote any of our dogs as house trained or allergy friendly.

Looking for a hiking buddy with a husky sense of humor? Meet Yogi, a 2-year-old, 50lb whirlwind of energy who's been waiting a little too long to find his forever pack. This 34% Husky, 42% GSD, and 24% Super-mutt is equal parts adventurous explorer and lovable goofball.

Here's the lowdown on this one-of-a-kind dog:

* Hiker extraordinaire: Forget Netflix marathons, Yogi's idea of a good time involves conquering mountains and chasing squirrels (safely, from a distance, of course).

* Shower of affection (literally): Yogi's ecstatic greetings involve either a generous dose of puppy kisses or an enthusiastic offering of his favorite toy. Be prepared for love attacks!

* Structured silly goose: He thrives on routine and loves to please, but his Husky roots sometimes manifest in enthusiastic "conversations," especially if you're on the phone. Apartment living might not be his cup of tea, despite his previous foster not getting any complaints (townhouse), we don't want to push it.

* Crate-tolerant, treat-motivated: While not a fan of his crate, a few tasty treats can work wonders in convincing him to settle in.

* Aloofness is his charm (maybe): He might seem a bit aloof at times, but don't be fooled, this goofball loves nothing more than being around his humans. He might occasionally test boundaries, but his loyalty and intelligence make him a joy to train.

* Mood reader extraordinaire: Yogi picks up on your vibes like nobody's business. Feeling nervous? He'll sense it. Feeling adventurous? He's ready to explore! Just remember, training is key, especially when meeting new people, as his excitement can get the best of him.

Yogi might not be the perfect fit for everyone, but for the right family, he'll be the most loyal, loving, and adventurous companion they could ask for.

Additional adoption info

READ CAREFULLY:

*An application is required at this link: https://bit.ly/4d7XoKd

Our Application Process Includes:
*Background check
*Vet reference check
*Landlord check
*In person home visit

Adoption Donation Scale (Tax Deductible):
Up to 10 Years Old $450
Over 10 Years Old $350

*Our contracts have a training requirement for adopted dogs.

*Unless the dog’s bio specifies a needed breed experience or a certain environmental setting, applicants residing over one hour (60 miles maximum in distance) from Zip Code 20906, will likely not be considered. However, fantastic matches in PA, NJ, NY, and WV will be considered on case by case basis.

*We do not adopt out the following dog breeds to a first time dog owner or someone who has no experience with the breed: Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Doberman, Australian Cattle Dog.

*All adoptable dogs will have age appropriate core vaccines (Rabies, Canine distemper/adenovirus (hepatitis)/parvovirus vaccine) and a microchip.

*Filling out the application and any subsequent communication, including the home visit, is NOT a guarantee of approval. There are usually 3 approved families in the final pool of great potential homes for our dogs.

*We do NOT hold dogs back no matter what the circumstances are. If you have been approved to adopt a dog, have a fully executed contract in hand, and do not pick up your dog within 7 days of a successful meet and greet, we will continue with the next potential adopter. We ask that you wait to schedule any meet and greet until you are 100% prepared to take the dog home.

*If we do not contact you through email or phone within 7 business days of receiving your application, it means your application was not chosen as a potential fit for the dog. We do NOT send out "Application Was Not Chosen" email notices.

*Our dogs are never promoted as house trained. Our dogs are never promoted as allergy friendly irrespective of their breed (Breed we list in dogs’ bio is strictly a guess).

*Unless we have an exact birthdate for a dog, the age we list is based on our vet's guess and not on any other paperwork that was provided to us from the shelter or place of origin for said dog.

*Dogs may exhibit normal but potentially undesirable behaviors including, but not limited to, house soiling, nipping, biting, jumping on people, scratching (people, furniture, woodwork), barking, digging, mounting people’s legs, urine marking and that these normal behavior patterns may be difficult to manage. We can only share our knowledge of behaviors we observed and/or as reported by foster home. We do not guarantee that all of the dog’s behaviors are known nor that the dog will not develop new behaviors of concern.

*Most of our dogs come from shelters, many in rural areas; they often require multiple de-wormings to get rid of intestinal parasites. We provide one or two de-wormings while the dog is in our care, but most dogs will require additional treatments to fully clear their systems. A fecal examination must be conducted during your vet’s evaluation of your newly adopted pet during the 14-day post adoption exam.

*The possibility of a foster home adopting the animal in their care will be conveyed to all potential adopters. A foster home is considered one of the 3 approved families in the final pool of great potential homes for our dogs.

*Before submitting an application you should read, understand and consider your comfort level with our adoption contract which can be found at www.tascaslove.org

*Please pay very close attention to this, should your application progresses to an adoption. If not already done, we require all pets adopted from us to be spayed or neutered at one of our partner facilities. In addition to the adoption donation, there's a required REFUNDABLE deposit of $125 to ensure compliance. Tasca’s Love Cooperative (TLC) will reimburse the refundable $125 deposit with proof of spay/neuter. If a dog is not already spayed/neutered, TLC will schedule and pay for the neuter/spay surgery as follows:

Adopter agrees to have the dog spayed/neutered at a Clinic Location designated by TLC. If Adopter chooses to use their own vet, or a facility that wasn’t authorized by TLC, TLC will only reimburse Adopter the refundable $125 deposit AND up to the maximum amount TLC customarily pays for spay/neuter surgeries at a SpayNow Animal Surgery Clinic ($135 - $250 Male - weight dependent, $150 - $270 female - weight dependent).

The only clinics approved by TLC for Spay/Neuter Surgeries are:

SpayNow Animal Surgery Clinic - Laurel, MD & Grasonville, MD

Spay Spa & Neuter Nook - Davidsonville, MD

*Elective surgeries and/or procedures such as Dental Cleaning (unless senior at time of arrival to TLC), baby teeth extraction, umbilical hernia repair, “Happy Tail” amputation, dewclaw removal, skin tag removal, tummy tuck, grooming (unless matted at time of arrival to TLC) are not paid for by TLC, but we will secure an appointment at one of our partnering facilities for a discounted rate.

More about this rescue

Tasca’s Love Cooperative is a non-profit, all volunteer, foster based dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless in high volume low resource public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, those in danger of abuse or neglect, or special medical circumstances.

We strive to work with shelters and other rescues, transport, and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs. Proactively sharing information and coordination of transports to assist as many dogs as possible.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all age appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age or breed to the extent our resources allow.
