My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Are you looking for an adventure partner? A couch cuddler? A handsome hunk of a dog? Rocky is all that and more!

Like many rescue dogs, Rocky had a rough start in life; he once knew the love & comfort of couch cuddling but due to no fault of his own, found himself alone, in a backyard at the end of a chain and then spending the next 1 ½ years in a local shelter. Rocky was very stressed yet loving when he finally went into his current foster home and has been a wonderful house guest ever since. The goal now is to help Rocky feel safe and secure while still giving him the necessary structure that most dogs need. Building his confidence and teaching him how to respond to stimulating situations will help Rocky be his best self.

Recently, Rocky was able to spend time with a wonderful local trainer who built upon the skill set that DITR volunteers and his foster mom were teaching him. He has been practicing ‘place’, ‘wait’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, ‘stay’, ‘heel’ and learning how to manage stimulating situations (other dogs, squirrels, cats, house guests). Rocky is very smart, eager to please, extremely food motivated and responsive to training. There have never been any issues with Rocky’s love of people including children – except that he thinks he is the size of a cat. He literally will try to curl upon your lap – all 65 lbs of him, or stretch himself across whatever you are doing on the couch. Or throw his paws around your neck if you are sitting – so again, this is where training can be helpful with a dog of his size. Rocky rarely barks and will spend long periods of time chewing his bone or kong (filled with peanut butter). Rocky is wonderful in his crate and will race to it because he knows he is getting a snack! He really just wants to be with his people and can be quite mellow.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require each applicant to complete an adoption application, followed by a home visit. We also contact personal and veterinarian references. We want to make sure that the next home our furbabies go to, is their last, and that they will be loved like a member of the family.

We are a foster based rescue, but do also have a small shelter. You can contact us at diamondunderdogs@yahoo.com to setup an appointment to come out and check out some of our adoptables.

More about this rescue

Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue is a non profit animal rescue organization that is run by a dedicated group of volunteers. Our mission is to protect the welfare of animals, one life at a time, from unnecessary euthanasia. From high kill shelters to foster homes to caring adoptive families, Diamonds in the Ruff handles every aspect of the rescue process. Our animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive necessary medical treatment. Foster homes are used to provide sanctuary and ensure a successful placement. Our goal is to make the adoption process a kind, informative and rewarding experience because we believe that every animal can become a treasured family pet.

Why we do it:
4 million animals are euthanized each year in the United States.
That is 300,000 a month
Over 11,000 each day
Diamonds in the Ruff Animal Rescue works tirelessly to decrease this statistic.
