My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOOKING FOR LOVE:  Approx. 12 years old / Approx. 19 lbs.

Hi, I’m Nitro!  My foster says that I’m a sweet and loyal senior companion who has the cutest white eyebrows and brown Yoda ears, a wiggle butt with an adorable nub tail, and a happy, curious, and silly personality. I was adopted for about 3 years but came back to Mostly Mutts due to being protective of my mom and biting the grandson. I don’t really recall the circumstances of that, but I have not shown that behavior in my foster home and my foster will be happy to talk to you about how great I’m doing in their home.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I have previously wanted to be an only dog as I showed resource guarding, but in my foster home I’m living with 2 larger dogs, and I’ve done just fine with them after a proper introduction.  I am mostly disinterested in them and don't want to play, but we coexist and go for walks together well, etc. So, if you have a dog that sounds like this, we could meet and see how we do together.  I also don’t react to them on walks, I’m quite indifferent to seeing them from afar.  / No cats please. / No kids please due to the bite in my former home.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I’m very devoted, loving, and sweet to my people! I’ll do best in a home where there are not too many new people coming and going because it can take a little bit for me to warm up to new folks. But once I trust you, I will nudge you to keep petting me if you stop, climb into your lap to kiss your face, and follow you everywhere around the house. I am a huge lovebug!  When I lived at the MM shelter, I was very overwhelmed/stressed with the number of people I was exposed to each day, so I had a few favorite people and there were a few bites when others came up to us suddenly.  Again, I haven’t shown any of this in my foster home. / My energy level is around a 5 - 6, especially if there is food involved! I get SO excited for food and will perk up my ears, do my tippy-tappy dance, and wiggle my entire behind whenever I hear the slightest crinkle of any bag, so cute!

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am very food motivated which is great for training. I’m an expert at sitting, and I will offer a sit to you anytime I think you have treats. I will come when you shake a bag of treats. My foster mom is working with me on not jumping up and other commands like stay, etc. When I lived at the shelter, I knew more commands, but I’m happy with the ones I remember now and if you would like to work on more with me, we can do that. / I've not loved the crate in the past, but I do great in a secure pen or a small room when you need to leave me alone. / I have good potty manners in my foster home on a schedule. During the day I can hold it for up to 4 hours, and then at night I hold it all night for 8 hours!

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  My two favorite things are eating food and being petted by my people. I also love walks (keep them shorter in the summer heat please), bones, car rides, and fuzzy blankets! I enjoy looking out windows and rolling around in the grass outside too. I have a great nose and love to sniff and prance around in the yard or play with puzzle toys inside.  I am curious about sights, sounds, and smells on my walks in the neighborhood or at the park with my foster.  / I don’t like meeting people too quickly, so it is best to give me a little time to get to know you. Let me come to you instead of reaching for me. I will also bark at loud cars that pass by on walks, though I don’t bark much otherwise. I can't do stairs that well. I can manage a few, but if there is an entire flight of stairs, you'll have to pick me up which I have been fine with in my foster home. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and attention too.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I have a collapsing trachea so I should take shorter walks, led with a harness not a collar.  I should also not be walked much when it’s hot outside - just to go to the potty or to a cool stream. I’ve been diagnosed with Cushing’s, so I’ve started medication for that and I’m on a liver supplement.  I’ll need annual testing for Cushing’s, and I had that in Feb. 2024. I take all my meds easily for my foster!

If you’re looking for a devoted dog and have a nice quiet home environment, we could be a good match!  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
