My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a dog! Miss Luna and I have been on a long foster journey of life together, and as I am writing this my heart feels pain over the thought of not having her with me anymore, but for as much as my heart hurts, Luna deserves the very best this life has to offer her, and I am not it.

See, I take on some of the sickest cases the rescue life has to offer and Luna came to me in a dire situation. She had a tick borne disease that was completely preventable, but her former humans failed to prevent tick borne disease in her and neglected to treat her for it before they abandoned her on a Texas plain. The disease had progressed to the point that her blood was so thin that her dry kibble could have made her bleed out when the pound caught her.

Luna came to Rocky Mountain Leos to get healthy, get spayed and to find her forever home. However when we went to her spay consultation we found out that Luna was still in a dire situation with her bleeding risks. We also received devastating news that she was pregnant, and the ONLY option for her was a term delivery of her babies, otherwise she would definitely bleed out.

We focused very hard on her nutrition moving forward, and as her next appointment to check her bleeding risk came around we received our first miracle. Luna's blood had entered a phase of regeneration, and while she was still quite a risk in bleeding, things were improving on a trajectory that would make delivery safe for her.

Unfortunately, when we went to check on Luna's pregnancy in our following appointment, we were left scratching our heads and were referred for ultrasound because Luna's xray did not show any development of babies.

The next day we learned that we had been given another miracle. Very healthy little ones, and we were just a bit early for them to show up on x-ray. The ultrasound showed 4 babies with extra healthy hearts and it was beautiful!

The doctor decided it would be a good idea to run another bleeding check on Luna this day. I keep using the word miracle, but that is the only definition. Luna's bloodwork came back extraordinary. This puppy girl was going to make it through her delivery! Her blood had regenerated and had allowed her clotting factors to fall within a low normal range.

Our last appointment before labor was a puppy count. Reminding you of the 4 happy heartbeats on ultrasound, well, that turned into 11 fully formed skeletons on x-ray.

Suddenly our low normal was not enough.

Labor also started, but it went on for such a length of time that we were referred to reproduction for a c-section. The reproduction team wanted to wait 24 more hours as no one was in distress, and within 24 hours our miracle girl delivered 11 beautiful and healthy puppies. Another Miracle!

Since their birth everyone is thriving, I'm thrilled to say, but the journey Luna and I have been on has truly connected our hearts and I want the very very best for her.

Her adoption fee is not high, but the standards for her new home are. Luna has never been the priority until now, and she deserves to be your priority. She is a mixed breed dog so home ownership is required for adoption.

Luna is obedience, kennel, leash, and potty trained. She is a gentle spirit with tons of love to give.

Luna cannot go home until all of her babies have been adopted and she has been spayed, around March-April, but it would be amazing to have her family start building the love with her as soon as possible.

Please TEXT Michelle @ 720-755-5679 with any questions of it you would like an application for Luna's adoption. She is located southeast of Denver Colorado, and adopter will be required to pick her up when she is cleared for adoption.
