Meet one our newest foster’s – Alice. Alice has a beautiful long flowing white coat and is looking for her forever home.
On November 4th there were several tornadoes that touched down in North Texas. Unfortunately, the animal shelter in Athens (1.5 hours east of Dallas), suffered major damage from one of these tornados. CRT reached out to the shelter to see how they could help. CRT was told there was a female Chihuahua named Alice who had been dropped at the shelter two weeks earlier when her owner died. Already terrified and confused, Alice desperately needed a hero to rescue her. The sounds and aftermath of the tornado only made it worse for sweet Alice. The next day, after the roads were cleared, a CRT volunteer drove down to Athens and scooped up this precious girl. This beautiful girl is so grateful to be safe with CRT.
When Alice arrived in her new foster home, she ran non-stop in the backyard. She was so happy to be out of the shelter and into a normal home environment. After a good night’s rest and decompressing from events it was apparent that she had trouble eating. A quick look into her mouth and it was obvious her teeth were in horrible shape and she was in pain. Alice was taken to the vet and was given a full dental. She had a cleaning and polishing and had 6 teeth extracted. She was also given antibotics to combat the raging infection in her mouth. Her missing teeth do not impact her eating or life in any way. And she is definitely feeling better.
Alice is a Papillon / Chihuahua Mix and she is gorgeous. She has flowing locks and pointy triangular ears. Alice has a single coat of silky, medium length fur and doesn’t require professional grooming. Normal bathing and brushing twice a week to remove dirt and prevent knotting is all she needs. Her coat is longer on her ears, tail, chest, and the back of her legs. She is a light-to-moderate shedder and isn’t hypoallergenic. Alice’s head is mostly brown with a white stripe down her forehead and white around her muzzle. The rest of her body is white with light speckles of brown. She is striking! Alice is about 5 years old. She weighs about 14 pounds (and we think most of that is her beautiful fur – lol).
Alice loves her foster Dad; she took to him right away. He is the one who rescued her from the shelter, and she is so grateful to him. There is an unmistakable bond between Alice and her foster Dad. You can see the delight on her face when he enters the room. Her favorite thing is sitting in the chair with him watching TV. She loves cuddling between his legs in the reclincer. Alice is a little wary when she meets new people and it takes awhile for her to get comfortable. It took about two weeks for Alice to let her foster Mom pet her, and now Alice is comfortable and they are buddies. They go on walks every day. We don’t know her history so we can only speculate where she shy nature comes from. For that reason, we don’t feel Alice should live with children in the home. This girl has been through a lot! Despite her rough beginnings, Alice is a happy girl!
Alice is completely potty trained and will use a doggy door when she needs to go outside. She carries at least 10 toys outside and leaves them scattered throughout the yard! During the day she will go out and play with them. She especially likes chasing balls; however, she doesn’t think it’s important to bring them back … lol. There are several other small dogs in her foster home and she enjoys playing with the younger ones. Alice is not a big fan of crates and is anxious and cries inside one. For that reason, Alice sleeps in her own bed and that’s just fine with her. In the morning Alice jumps up on the family bed and greets her foster Mom and Dad. This beautiful girl just wants to be loved.
The perfect home for Alice would be one where the parents (or parent) was an experienced owner. We believe Alice may be a little shy in her new home. With a little patience she will make someone a wonderful companion. We are hoping for a loving and nuturing home which will allow this girl to thrive. She is the sweetest girl, and just wants to be cuddled and loved. Alice needs to be adopted into an all adult home (no children).
