Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATED BIO 06/07/2010: Diamond is a 7 year old blonde Silky Terrier mix. She has been in her foster home for a bit over a month and she is proving to be a very loving and friendly, but somewhat shy, little girlie. Unfortunately, she appears to have been abused in some way - either verbally or physically - but she is a brave little dog, and with a bit of patience from her foster mom, she is overcoming her former life. She gets along great with all dogs and cats and is sweet as can be. She is submissive and does not have a mean bone in her body (unless you are a fly - then watch out!) , and actually gets bullied sometimes by one of the cats - all Diamond does is run away. She loves to go to the dog park and sniff around. She doesn't really play with the other dogs and while she likes them all - male, female, large or small, she can get intimidated when some of the larger puppies want to play with her. She lives with a 9 year old and a 14 year old Yorkie, and gets along great with them. She has one ear that is up, and one ear that flops down - too cute!
She has gained weight and is now weighing in around 9 1/2 pounds, a much better weight than when she came out of the shelter, but she is still a touch slender and could put on another pound. Apart from being slightly underweight, she is completely healthy with no health issues whatsoever. She recently had a dental, and her formerly black teeth are now nice, clean and shiny. She did lose a baby tooth (which wasn't supposed to be there anyway) but otherwise has a complete set of chompers. Diamond is a lap dog and loves to be on the couch with her people, and prefers to sleep in bed with them as well. She is a fairly mellow dog that goes with the flow and follows the cues of the other dogs - whether it's snoozing on the couch, going "pee-pee" out in the back, or getting excited to go on a trip to the dog park. While she does imitate the other dogs when they howl at the sirens, she is otherwise not a yappy little dog!
While her foster mother takes care of her, Diamond does seem to like her foster dad a lot - so she would make a great little dog for a man looking for a companion. Diamond would also make a great family dog for folks with older, gentle children. Diamond is ready to settle in and finally find a family to call her own fur-ever - is she the dog for you?

INITIAL BIO 04/13/10: MEET DIAMOND! With a name like Diamond, who wouldn't want to be tall, blond, skinny, and named Diamond? Sounds nice, but not when you are this particular little Diamond. Diamond is a precious little 7 y/o, 7# Silky Terrier that was at a South Florida shelter for almost a month while the shelter staff was trying to find her former owner. She was brought in as a stray - starving, completely covered in fleas and matted to her skin. Animal Control discovered she had a microchip that was registered to another private animal rescue organization. When that group was contacted about Diamond, they concurred that they had adopted her out.....but made it clear that they didn't want her back....sigh... With the adopting owner(s) info in hand, it appears her former owner skipped town and left little Diamond on her own, out in the streets, to fend for herself. By this time, Diamond was too weak and too sad to care....
So, this is now the second time Diamond has been homeless and looking for a furever home. She has only been in her Foster Mom's house a few hours, but she has eaten a meal, taken a look around and settled in. Even though the shelter estimated her at 7 years old, please don't let her age fool you - she is definitely no little ole lady doggie! Although Diamond weighs approximately 7#, she is extremely underweight and needs to gain at least 2-3 more pounds to be at a healthier weight. Check back for updates on this precious gem and watch her go from a Diamond in the Rough to a beautiful and glamerous Rock Star!
