Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Bruce!
If you’re looking for a low energy, high velcro, loyal and gentle fluffy giant, Bruce may be your boy!
Bruce is a 3-year-old, 48lb, neutered deaf double merle Aussie currently being fostered in Wilmington, NC. Bruce’s vision seems to be perfect; however, he may experience sensitivity to bright sunlight due to his very light blue eye color. So a pair of Rex Specs may be needed in his future.
Prior to Bruce’s surrender to the shelter, he was an outdoor dog. We believe he was either kept in a small pen or tethered. Bruce is not an energetic or athletic Aussie, but he does have the biggest Aussie wiggle when he sees his people! He prefers to follow his people around the house, take naps and chew on Nylabones.
Bruce has shown almost perfect house manners. He’s housebroken, does not jump on people or kitchen counters, and does not get on the furniture or bed. He sleeps in a dog bed next to his foster mom’s bed and demands lots of pets before he settles in for the night. He will occasionally get into trash cans or pick up things he’s not supposed to have. He rides well in cars if he has space to lay down.
Bruce has quickly learned signs for come, sit, good boy, kiss, and we’re working on ‘drop it’. He pulls on a leash, but we think he can learn leash manners quickly.
Bruce has been fostered with 5 male dogs, a 10-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl, and his foster mom and dad. Bruce does not partake in dog play and prefers to be near his people. He has done well with all humans in the household, but lets the dogs know when he prefers his space. For this reason, we recommend Bruce go to a home with an older dog or one that will not pester him. We also recommend a home without small children as he can startle easily due to being deaf. Older children with dog experience will be fine. Bruce also guards his food from the other dogs and will need to be fed in a separate area. He does not guard from humans.
Bruce sustained injuries to his nose during his time in the shelter as he tried to escape the crate/cage, so he cannot be crated. He is not destructive, and he’s had no issues being left out while his foster family is away.
Bruce is neutered, up to date on vetting, on heartworm, flea and tick prevention and is microchipped. His foster family does prefer a meet and greet with any potential adopter.
