My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Butternut, along with Beanie who may be her sister, came into ARF's care on 9/28/2022, and they had their first vet visit the same day.  The dogs had wandered into a home, the lady felt they were hungry and fed them, and they didn't leave. Butternut has short hair, brown with black, is around three years old, weighs about 35 pounds. She is a friendly, playful girl.  On 9/28/22 she was given a one-year DHPP, bordatella, rabies shot, drontal, and Nexgard, which has been kept up to date. Then Butternut and Beanie went to boarding.  Everything was new to them, but it didn't take long for Butternut to get to know and like the staff and to become familiar with their routine. Beanie was a little more afraid and stand-offish.  It was difficult to tell if the two dogs were bonded, but Butternut seemed more independent and ready for new people and new adventures.  They got to know some ARF volunteers who visited (with treats), but they needed more exposure to people and to other dogs. The lady who surrendered them said Beanie was fearful of men but that Butternut didn't seem to be. So they were moved on 11/4/22 to a kennel at the local shelter where they could be tested with other dogs and be walked by volunteers along the walking trails on the county farm.  They were added to doggie play groups, which Butternut loved, but on 11/11/22 they were spayed and went into rest and recovery mode. Both girls healed well but missed the walks and play time, so they were glad to resume those activities. They keep their kennel clean and the lady who surrendered them said they would go to the door at her house to go outside. They had a 4DX at the time of the spay, and Butternut was negative. Butternut likes people, adventure, activity, other dogs, and stuffed toys that squeak.  She's a smart girl and wants to please.  She may get a little too enthusiastic at times and hasn't learned not to jump up in excitement, but the more people who spend time with her, the better she does.  She is a good girl who needs a loving home where she knows her people and her routine, feels secure, and can thrive!
