Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tito is a sweet little fella 13-year-old Yorkie. He is 6 pounds and is being fostered in Vero Beach, Florida. Dogs being fostered in Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.
Updated Bio 1/19/23: Little Tito is doing incredibly well in his foster home, he is getting healthier and stronger every day while he waits for his forever home. Tito is awake more often during the day. His walks are getting longer and he is walking faster, so much so that he wore foster Mom right out yesterday! He has a buddy in the neighborhood that he loves to play with. They play pretty hard. In fact, we were shocked at how hard Tito played with her. He was running and jumping and spinning! It was awesome to watch. While having a little buddy in his forever home isn't necessary, it sure would be a bonus.
Since Tito is still having issues with his ears, and separation anxiety, we took him to see Dr. Amber at Treasure Coast Animal Rehab and Fitness here in Vero Beach last week. She specializes in senior pet care with a goal of helping them age gracefully, pain-free and happy. Tito got a mini laser treatment, not only for his ear, but his neck and shoulder as well for the arthritis .After his ear was cleaned out professionally and had the laser treatment the swelling is down considerably. We are hoping to get him a few more laser treatments starting next week. They come at quite a cost but they really do help and we think Tito is worth it! United Yorkie Rescue sure could use your help in getting these treatments for him.
Treating his separation anxiety is still ongoing. We are trying a few different things to help, but Tito will need a home where he won't be left alone for very long. One of the "tools" that was mentioned was a treat puzzle in hopes of redirecting his focus from being alone. Foster Mom didn't think it would help, since Tito does not eat treats, unless it's fresh fruit or vegetables. She got a simple puzzle and put some tiny pieces of fresh apple in it. Oh boy, he loves it, and figured it right out in no time flat! We don't know exactly which meds or supplements will help the most so we are not sure of the cost, but Yay, he is hardly taking any pain medication at this time. His liver enzymes are still elevated so he will need liver meds that run about $20.00 dollars a month.

Updated Bio 12/26/22: Little 6Lb Tito has found himself in our foster program through no fault of his own. Tito had been with the same owner for thirteen years, all of his life. He has a few health issues that needed further testing to figure out exactly what they are and how to be properly treated.
Unfortunately, the owners had a disagreement on how to proceed. One wanted to find out what was wrong and one wanted to have him euthanized! Could you imagine having this sweet boy put down? United Yorkie Rescue could not, so when they reached out to us to surrender him, we said yes, and he became part of the UYR family! He had been banished to a small bathroom where we believe he was emotionally shutting down. The pictures that were given to us showed extreme hair loss, and what appeared to be a bacterial infection along with a yeast infection.
His vet had been treating him for allergies without much success. His foster Mom got him to our vet just as soon as she could. We had been told that he has chronic ear infections and it was thought that they has caused his deafness. Our vet told us that some ear medications can cause deafness and indeed have caused Tito to be completely deaf. He still has a double ear infection and is now on the proper antibiotic. Our suspicions are correct and yes, Tito has a bacterial and yeast infection on his skin and is being treated for them as well. His hair has been growing back nicely. Blood work was done to determine if he could withstand the anesthesia to have a much-needed dental, and it is. Tito will lose at least one of the four teeth he has left and possibly all of them next week.
It doesn't stop him from eating, we have found a food that he likes and can eat well considering the infection in his mouth, which he is being treated for as well. The blood work also showed that Tito has slightly elevated liver enzymes. An ultrasound and ex-rays were done and everything looks normal for his age. He does have some sludge in his gallbladder but medication will help with that.
In just the short time he has been here, Tito is starting to relax and trust people again. He has the run of the house and has several comfy beds strategically placed around where he can see outside, lay in a sunny spot, and watch foster Mom. Every evening he walks through the entire house. We call it his nightly perimeter check! Tito loves to go for walks and it's surprising how far he can go. He slowly greets all of the dogs he sees and seems to be friendly with other people but does not like to touch them, and understandably so.
Amazingly though, on Halloween, he loved the little ones that came trick-or-treating and had no problem letting them pet him! We did have a breakthrough recently and Tito rolled over so Foster Mom could give him a belly rub. Yay Tito!
Once his infections are gone and he is more comfortable we know that he will be a confident little Yorkie. We are already seeing some of his personality and he will defiantly be a great companion. We won't know what Tito will need in a forever home yet, so check back for updates as we learn exactly what is needed to give him the comfortable and happy life that he deserves. For more information please contact his foster Mom at yorkiesrj2006@gmail.com. If you are able please donate to help with Tito's care.
