Benedick (a/k/a Benny, The Benster, BenBen, Benny Boo Boo) joined SSR from a high kill shelter in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. He came up on transport three weeks ago and has made great progress settling in to his foster home.
What is there to say about Benny other than, he’s adorable! Benny looks like a miniature GSD, right down to his coloring and big ears, but truth be told, he probably has zero GSD in him. He’s a spunky little fellow who loves to play, eat and sleep. In other words, he’s a fairly typical puppy. Initially, he was quite scared of people, but he’s learning fast that trust equals treats, ear scritches and belly rubs. He gets along very well with the resident male puppy and the grumpy senior GSD, and he’s even warmed up to the kitty, though he still chases her a bit. His favorite game with toys is keep away, and he likes playing ball as well.
A few vital stats about this boy:
About 4-5 months old
Maybe 15 lbs. soaking wet (I said he was teeny!)
Crate trained
(Mostly) house trained (dry overnight in his crate but has the occasional pee accident)
Vaccinated
Microchipped
Benny would do fine with another dog on the house, but also easily could be an only dog. He does fine with kids. He’s still a little jumpy but we are working on that. His leash manners need work. Given his size, he does not need a large yard, and would be apartment appropriate. He would be a great companion for a senior or retired person.
