Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hello humans, I am Charlie (fka Laya). I am a female 10-month-old Australian Shepherd/Catahoula mix (they think). I was adopted over the summer, but it didn’t work out and I am back and better than ever!
First and foremost, my new family will need a lot of patience and years of experience with dogs with strong personalities. I tend to take after my Catahoula relatives. I take my time when trusting new people and need a gentle handler. I barked at my foster dad for 15 minutes when I met him. He didn’t push me but sat with me in a small room until I was comfortable and came to him.
I am the best at guarding my human and our home. I need my human to make me feel secure when new people are around me. If my human gives me the okay, I may sniff a new person, or I may just sit at a distance and bark at them. I am working hard with my foster dad and pack to build my confidence and trust in strangers. We walk around the neighborhood daily and I’m okay with people that I’ve met a few times. I am still afraid of children because they are loud and move fast. Once I know them and feel omfortable, I will give them kisses.
If you are still reading this, let me tell you that I am loyal, a lover, and a cuddlebug even though I am shy and reserved with new things.
I’m a good girl who knows my basic commands such as sit, down and walk exceptionally calm on leash, if I do say so myself. I am crate trained, house trained, and doggy door trained. I LOVE to play as all puppies do! I also think I’m gorgeous!
I would thrive in a suburban or rural home with a fenced yard to run in. A knowledgeable,
patient human is a must. Please, no little children. I would really love a confident doggie
playmate or even 2 or 3. I’ve had up to 6 pack mates here at The Paradise Hotel for Doggos in
Fredericksburg, VA and love them! Thank you for auditioning to be my new human!
