Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption.
If you want a puppy but really don’t want to go for long walks or throw a ball ‘till your arm aches,Hansel may be the pup for you. Hansel is a sturdy, sweet and calm 14 week old old cattle dog/lab X who weighs about 19#. His ears are huge, maybe lab or perhaps a hound was in his lineage. We expect him to be a mid-sized adult.
When he was a couple of weeks old his tiny paw was caught in a chain and it ‘amputated’ his paw. To complicate his situation, his mom died of injuries, possibly from a coyote attack. By some miracle and a lot of love from his family, he survived until he got to PUP and some vet care. Whether or not we could or even should try to save the leg was a great debate. In the end the leg healed well and he is using it like a champ. We decided to leave the leg on. He is in no pain and he seems to be an exceptionally happy little guy who loves cuddles and lots of lap time. He runs hard during games of chase with the other pups. He is doing steps and happily walks around the block, a bit slower than his buddies, but like the energizer bunny, he just keeps going. He plays his little heart out. Check out the videos.
Hansel loves his lap time. He comes and sweetly asks go be lifted up. He has a moderate energy level and is non-demanding and easy to live with. He is playful and out going.
His paw needs no special care. Since he has no pad his adopter might want to give him a little bootie like the sled dogs use, but for now he is doing fine as is.
Hansel is living with other pups and the resident dog. He lived with dogs, cats and children in his original home. He is taken out for potty training on a regular basis and gets right to business. He is about 70 percent housebroken.
The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, and puppy socialization classes are particularly important.
Hansel has been vet checked, wormed and had all core vaccinations including rabies. The $350 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.
