My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Baker is a mixed breed – Spaniel and Beagle, with maybe a little Husky or Collie thrown in. Now 8 years old, he is a handsome, middle-sized dog of about 20 kilos (approximately 45 pounds) with a special feature that people often notice: one blue eye and one brown eye!

Baker is sweet, loving, playful, loves getting attention, and knows and obeys the basic commands. He is highly motivated by food and therefore easily trained. With food as motivation, he will do a few other “tricks” as well.
Baker lived in a home with his parents and a human sibling all of his life. Now the son has recently moved out of the family home and the adults don’t have the time to devote to Baker. He is looking for someone to lavish attention on him and play with him.
Baker sleeps in a crate at night and sometimes goes in there voluntarily during the day. He is fine staying at home alone, but is happiest hanging out with people. Baker loves to play and run in the forest.
Baker walks well on leash but can also be anxious and reactive, and startled into aggressive behaviour by loud noises, passing cyclists, skateboarders, or joggers and he has responded by lunging. He will be happier in a more rural or quiet setting and with an owner who is experienced with dogs, and ready to provide the surveillance he needs in a relaxed environment.
Recently he lunged out when someone introduced a puppy to Baker. The woman was holding the puppy in her arms and put the puppy towards Baker and then got bit when Baker lunged. It all happened very quickly. We hope to find someone who is used to anxious dogs and who understands canine language. We think that someone who recognizes Baker’s signs will be able to ensure that Baker is not in any situation where he will be overly nervous. Someone who wants to put the time into training him to do more tricks (or for staying calm when receiving visitors) will find that he loves to please as he will be given treats. He loves the attention and loves having a job to do.

Baker is vaccinated, sterilised and microchipped!

Additional adoption info

We do regular follow ups and virtual home visits before the family meet the dog. :)

Go meet their pets

We are presently foster based so the meetings will take place where the dogs are being kept and that way the potential family can also discuss the good and bad habits of that dog to see if it's the right fit. The families need to be willing to work on a behaviour if it needs work and to provide the appropriate time and patience for the dog to accllimate to it's new home!

More about this rescue

We are a small shelter with lots of experience with dogs and rescuing. I worked for a larger shelter in the past but didn't always appreciate the way things were handled so I decided to branch out in a smaller scale but with all of the wonderful contacts and information that I've learned in the past decade + of doing rescue! Dogs are my passion and I would love to place as many as possible in their loving, furever homes!
