My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption.

Gretel is a nice little 2 month old Lab X who currently weighs 12#. She will likely grow to the upper end of mid-size range or the lower end of large breed, but that is best guess. We are relying on visual breed identification and we suspect that she is part Australian Shepherd. DNA testing often shows 20 or more breeds in the mix of dogs coming from this area. We call it hybrid vigor. Gretel is the middle pup in the litter that ranges from 5# to 13#. Mom died of injuries from an unknown source but the pups were old enough to eat on their own. Unfortunately, her owner has limited financial resources and found caring for the pups to be a challenge and asked PUP to take them in. They are thriving in their foster home and Gretel is ready to go to her forever home on November 11 after her second vaccination.

The pups had lived outside in their previous home. In their foster home they are beginning the first steps in house breaking, consistently using newspapers. She is ready to begin for-real housebreaking. The little spot on her forehead that shows on in the pictures appears to be where a tick had attached and the spot will soon disappear.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Gretel has been vet checked, wormed and had routine vaccinations. She will need one more routine vaccination plus rabies at the owner’s expense. The $350 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.
