My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Up for adoption in Texas: Tommy Lee Bones.

We are looking for an experienced adopter for this gorgeous boy who is about one year old and weighs 45 pounds. He is a diamond in the "ruff."

Tommy was rescued from a shelter where he and his sister were abandoned.

Tommy loves his people! When he comes in from potty and play time outside, he is so excited to see his people that he leaps into your lap and needs to be held for a few minutes. He likes to put his paws on your shoulders while your pet his head. Tommy likes pets so much that he will sometimes take your hand in his mouth to lift it towards his head. When he snuggles, he melts into your body while you stroke his soft, silky fur.

He also gets along well with cats in his foster home and has been able to learn the kitten’s boundaries and play with her.

Tommy loves to play with other dogs, but sometimes he grumbles and gets possessive of his people and possessions like bones. The dogs in his home are submissive and give Tommy his space. He needs some work in this area and we can point adopters in the right training direction.

Tommy is medium energy and enjoys running and playing with his foster siblings outside, but when he’s inside, he prefers to be snuggled up with his people or chewing on a bone.

He walks well on a leash and greets other dogs appropriately. He shows shyness around strangers, but just stays close to his person. Once he meets someone new he slowly warms up.

He is a pretty chill dude, until food comes out. He loves snacks and food, and gets super bouncy when it’s meal time, which his foster family is working on. Tommy struggles with food insecurity, he wolfs down his bowl of food in no time and wants more. He has learned he’s not allowed people food, and responds when told no. He jumps a lot and gets super excited over food, so his foster family finds it easiest on everyone if he eats in his crate. Tommy is still learning not to jump.
Tommy is shy when he meets new people, and prefers to go hide when things get too noisy. After a few minutes of warming up, he loves everyone.

We don’t recommend a home with young children for Tommy – we’d prefer only adults and or adults with teenagers. He stays in his kennel when he’s home alone (he is a counter surfer) but sleeps in his foster’s bedroom at night. Tommy doesn’t like to be away from his people, and needs to be safe when they’re not home, crating makes him feel safe.

Tommy knows how to “sit”, knows what “crate” means, and is learning “down”. He responds well to a firm “no” when he’s being silly. His recall is pretty good.
Hilariously he shows interest in balls but doesn’t understand why you want to throw it.

Lucky Lab requires adopters do ongoing training for their dogs and we think Tommy would shine with some positive reinforcement training with a pro. We can give you info.

He is housebroken, crate trained, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Apply at www.luckylabrescue.com
