Fred’s adoption donation is $350 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He is neutered, microchipped, and had rabies, distemper/parvo, bivalent canine influenza, and Bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on that prevention as well as flea prevention. Fred also had a dental cleaning with extractions. Fred requires a home with a companion dog of similar energy, and a home with a verifiable outstanding veterinary history.
Fred came into our rescue from a local Humane Society after he was found on the streets of the Cincinnati because he required more care than they could provide. He was in such a deteriorated physical condition that his age could not be determined at intake. He was very thin, nervous, skittish, but happy and energetic, and would cuddle right up against you, and likes to be held sometimes, where his cuddling skills shine! Fast-forward to today, and you see a rather confident, friendly, lively, bouncy, sociable, engaging, 9-10 year old shih tzu mix. He loves a daily walk, running zoomies in the house and yard, greeting visitors with his energy, and then crashing for the evening. He gets along well with other dogs, in fact, he prefers to be snuggling in the same bed or at least next to another dog. He has adjusted well in his foster home but it did take some time for him to settle in to the routine. He does well with housetraining when kept on a schedule. Fred has made incredible progress while in rescue and we’ve discovered, like many dogs we see, Fred does need a limited ingredient diet and he is doing very well on the over the counter brand that we’ve been feeding and will most likely need to continue this diet indefinitely. For this reason, Fred requires a home with an outstanding, verifiable veterinary history. Fred is happy and playful, comes when called, enjoys play with other dogs, but he can amuse himself with a squeaky toy. He is a quiet sleeper, and will bring delight to his new forever family.
