Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Larry is a 3-year old, 49 lb cattle dog mix originally from West Texas. He was picked up as a stray along with his brothers (Moe & Curly) in June 2020. Larry was adopted out and sadly returned to PNWCDR. He's a sweet, sensitive boy looking for his forever home again. Larry needs attentive humans who will give him lots love, training, and treats!
Larry is friendly and easy-going with dogs and people that he knows. He can be leash reactive at first: barking at unknown dogs on neighborhood walks. He responds well to redirection with treats and space. Once he gets to know new dogs, Larry is respectful and adapts easily to a home with other dogs. He's shared a home with several other resident dogs and foster dogs while in foster and he's always been easy-going and a bit submissive with other dogs in the home.
He tries to chase cats and loves hunting squirrels in the backyard. He's shown some interest in ducks and chickens too.
Larry likes running and zooming around in the backyard, chasing flies, snoozing on a comfy bed, getting pets and cuddles from his people and going for walks or runs. He's smart, trainable and eager to please. Larry already knows basic commands and is a well-behaved dog around the home with his humans & dogs. He is crate-trained and he enjoys decompressing in his crate. He is pretty mellow around the house -- until it's time to go do something fun!
Larry dislikes when new people go too fast when approaching or handling him, or when he's startled by a new visitor in the home. He has nipped when he's been surprised or overwhelmed by a new human in his space. He does great with basic management with new visitors: crate or baby gate when people arrive, then a little space and time to get to know new humans. He doesn't take long to warm up to new people when he's allowed to go at own pace. He loves treats and is easily redirected. His adopters should have previous knowledge of herding breeds and understand how to work with his sensitivities. With a little patience, his new family will soon see what a wonderful pup he is! He is a favorite of his foster family -- he has so much charm and loves to be a velcro doggie.
Larry hasn't lived with kids or cats. In a previous home he was overwhelmed by small children. We won't place Larry in a home with young children.
Larry is neutered, microchipped and has received age-appropriate core vaccines. Larry is being fostered in Corvallis, OR and the adoption fee is $330. If you're interested in meeting Larry, please fill out an adoption application on our website: pnwcdr.org/adopt
