Murphy’s Newport Beach pet-parent claimed to have worked long hours and says the cat never bonded with him and chose to isolate himself in a garage cabinet since his adoption as a kitten in 2004.
The now 5-year-old silver tabby was returned to the custody of Community Animal Network, and Rhoda Doerr of Costa Mesa has been giving a lot of time to rehabilitate and socialize Murphy since he grew accustomed to a life of isolation. He will now purr nonstop on her lap during their time together.
'He’s not hiding much anymore,” Rhoda says, “and he looks out the big window where he has expressed a lot of interest in the blowing leaves when it is windy and likes to see his own reflection in the closet mirror.”
Murphy will hide when the gardeners come or he hears loud noises, but otherwise rolls on his back while playing with his favorite catnip fish.
The network seeks a patient and caring individual who will give Murphy a chance to start to enjoy human interaction and companionship.
Murphy may be seen in the caregiver’s home.
Visit our website at: www.animalnetwork.org to see our fees, adoption requirements and to view other available animals we have for adoption. Email: contact@animalnetwork.org for the application to adopt and tell us a little about your family’s lifestyle and home. Some of the new arrivals can be seen in the caregiver’s homes on weekdays. A mandatory pet parenting class is given on Saturdays so you can learn how to introduce your new pet to existing ones, teaching house manners, recommended foods and the best litter, and what you can do to avoid your cat from getting certain diseases. If you can’t find the pet that you are looking for sign up for our “Pet Match Service” and tell us what you are looking for. A $25 donation is accepted for this 1 year service.
