My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sesame!

Sesame is a Roborovski dwarf hamster who was abandoned by his previous owner with a pet sitter they'd hired. It's very difficult to determine a hamster's age but our best guess is that he's around a year old.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with Roborovskis, these little guys are the smallest and fastest of domesticated hamster species. They are also known for being timid, shy, and skittish due to still retaining much of their natural prey instincts from the wild (hamsters have not been domesticated for very long). Robos are notoriously hands-off little hammies but once they get to know you and trust you their curiosity often gets the better of them and they will come up to your hand for treats. A robo that allows pets and being held is quite rare however. That is the only reason why he's marked "not good with kids".

These teeny tiny hammies are hilarious to watch. They run around their enclosures at the speed of light but like they have no idea what they're doing or where they're going. Robos originate from the deserts in and around Mongolia and Kazakhstan. Being from the desert, their sand baths are extremely important to them. Robos need very large sand baths; ideally a third of their entire enclosure. We are happy to help and advise on proper Robo care and hamster-safe sand if needed.

Sesame typically wakes up around 10pm and goes back to his burrow around dawn. His favorite yummies are romaine lettuce, berries, dried mealworms, and carrots.
