Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Breed: Egyptian Baladi
Age: 7-8 years
Location: Milton, ON
Freddie is 7-8 year old Egyptian Baladi that we met in the summer. Freddie was Maggie’s protector.
Freddie & Maggie showed up on the street of their rescuer in the summer and decided they like it there. Freddie was always the first one to come out and say hi. The first one with tail wags to greet everyone and Maggie’s best friend.
You see, something or someone along their lives hurt Maggie and her back leg was broken. She moved around well, just held up her leg. Freddie knew she was special and they were best friends. It took their rescuer some time to finally meet Maggie (once Freddie trusted her).
We noticed that Freddie had a notch in his ear and was wider than the typical Baladi and the rescuer confirmed that he was actually neutered! So wether he was someone’s pet at one point in his life or he was part of the TNR program, we don’t know, but we do know that he can not reproduce. When Maggie started to show signs of pregnancy, we took her off the street so her babies didn’t have to be born without protection.
Freddie stayed with Maggie at the boarding facility until he became protective of her babies.
They flew to Canada together and actually went into the same foster home. Such happy dogs still together. A short while after, Freddie started to exhibit signs of leash aggression and guarding. He would snarl and growl while passing people or other dogs on the street as well as new people coming into the home. He would also chase the cat. We had to take him out of that situation for safety reasons.
As we didn’t have a suitable foster home that would be able to work with these issues, we unfortunately had to place him into a kennel. When visited, Freddie is amazing! Such a lovely boy that wants all the human attention he can have. He will curl up on your lap for hours and sleep and get pets. He really is a good boy.
We haven’t been able to get Freddie placed into a board and train facility but are desperately looking for a foster or adoptive home that would work out for him. Freddie is a great protector but will need to learn that it is okay if he has visitors in his safe area and it is ok to walk by someone while he’s on a leash and not react. He was great with kids and other dogs on the street, so we feel that the leash is one of his main issues.
Freddie is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped and has a valid rabies titer.
