My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey, everyone--Dixie here!

I've been with my foster mom for a few months now, and she says that I've made such remarkable progress that I've earned bragging rights, so here's my updated story.

I love, love, love being outside, and all the snow makes it extra fun. My foster mom laughs when I come inside because I have snow all over my face. My favorite thing to do is roll and roll in the snow. I'll stretch out as far as I can and roll some more. I've also learned to play with the outside toys. I like being outside so much that I'm happy to play out there by myself. I'll toss a ball, run after it, pounce on it, and then do it all over again. When I'm at the dog park, I'll run, jump, leap, and fly through the air at every opportunity. Until I came to ESRA, I lived all my life in a crate, so you can understand my joy and appreciation of the outdoors.

I'm doing much better going for walks. I used to cower, hold my tail between my legs, and walk behind my foster mom. I was very scared, since everything was new to me. I'm still a little nervous in some situations, but for the most part I'm walking up front, right next to my foster brother and sister, holding my tail high and enjoying all the sights and smells along the way.

Some of the best news about me is that I've gained five more pounds, so I now weigh forty-three pounds. I've also gotten taller, which made my foster mom do a little investigation into my family tree. She feels pretty strongly that I'm a mix called a Springerdoodle. Apparently my narrow muzzle, long legs, and wavy fur are a strong indication, and she was even more convinced when she saw me walking outside on my rear legs.

Oh, I don't want to forget to tell you how much I enjoy belly rubs in the mornings. What a great way to wake up! In return, I'll give you sweet kisses.

I do need a fenced yard. I also need another dog to help me continue to learn to trust people, to play with, and for companionship. I do have separation anxiety, but we're working on that. Also, a home with older children would be best.

There's so much more to tell, but I'll leave the rest to my foster mom. I'm in the process of embracing all things canine and would love to share new experiences with my Forever Family. So please inquire about me, and when you do, be sure to ask my foster mom about the "Nose-Bonk" game as well as a game I call "Whose Leash Is It Anyway?"

Gotta go chase some snowflakes!

Love,
Dixie
