My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. Basil is the kind of pup who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder breathing his warm baby breath. He's so sweet and loving with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a puppy is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuers and fosters in Texas for saving Basil from almost certain euthanasia through no fault of his own.

It got scarily close to Basil's euthanasia date in a dismal Texas shelter as t's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy guy with a great temperament!), Basil was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer, shelter workers and Basil's foster haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging guy ever since.

Basil, at just about 4 months old old and 24 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 45 lbs when full-grown) is the perfect size to take along just about anywhere a dog with a great temperament is welcome. Basil is such a perfect candidate to find his forever home in Colorado - he's a natural-born hiker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany his favorite person on any trail...and absolutely love the experience!

We envision Basil with dog-crazy retirees who have the passion and time for a silly, fun-loving and irresistible little guy. Basil would also do well with a younger family that works from a home-based office. Basil is too sensitive a puppy to be left alone for the long hours of full-time work outside of the home. We feel he will do well with very gentle older kids however tail pulling or awkward handling by a very young child would be very scary for a puppy who is learning about the world.

Basil will be a very family-oriented dog if given the chance...adventures, dog-friendly vacations or just hanging out at home with family members would speak to the nature of this very engaging and loving family pup A fun time for Basil would be exploring dog-friendly locations or time spent socializing with gentle canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day however...there would be nothing better for Basil than to snuggle close to his family of humans and canines for cuddling and lots of love and belly rubs.

Basil can be counted on to be a positive addition to any home. Once he is over the initial stress of his transport and rehoming, he will be overjoyed at being part of a committed family! After passing his temperament testing and vetting with flying colors, Basil is with a wonderful foster in Texas getting loved up with lots of belly rubs and pure love. His foster mom has described Basil as a super-smart, very sweet puppy with a strong desire to please.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement/force-free training classes that are virtual or in-person. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Basil out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. We require adopters to agree to several sessions of puppy positive reinforcement kindergarten for socialization, followed by level one force- free obedience training. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.

Basil is in need of a sudsy bath and coat care. With this care, he'll emerge with a cottony-soft, shining and very healthy coat that will highlight his golden coloring and speak of his breed mix. Basil will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (5 star kibble and a salmon oil supplement are always an excellent choice for longevity and hair care) to keep his lovely coat very healthy, super-soft and shining.

Basil, at just 4 months old, is too young to be neutered at this time. Current research is very clear that puppies are best fixed at approximately one year old after they've had the benefit of hormones to strengthen their skeleton for their later lives. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Basil's neuter and microchip once he reaches an appropriate age and if one of our local rescue vets is used.

Basil will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Wednesday 11/2/2022 or possibly a week later. We'll update when the information is confirmed. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, loving and loyal best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Basil please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
