Meet Pretty Penny-PA, a female 4 year old Goldendoodle, who is in an IDOG foster home in Robesonia, PA near Reading and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety & welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.
*We are all volunteers & have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt Penny before we will schedule a meet & greet with her. We do not transport our dogs. *AGE: 4 years (born July 2017)
*WEIGHT: 48 lbs.
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is required; no electronic fences will be allowed. She may not do a recall in a fenced yard when she transitions to her new family; they should be prepared to use a long line until she is transitioned, comfortable & consistent with her new home & family.
*COAT TYPE: Penny has a soft, lower shedding coat; her new family should be prepared to brush her coat regularly & have her groomed every 8-10 weeks (approximately $100/groom).
*ENERGY LEVEL: moderate, spurts of energy and then settles. She would do well with a daily walk.
*DOGS: does well with all the dogs in her foster home. Penny do well with another dog in her new home. She love all dogs she has met and we feel that this would help her to adjust to her new home.
*CATS: no. We feel she would be most successful in a home without cats.
*KIDS: 13+ who know not to push her if she is frightened & not to leave the door open, etc. Penny is friendly to all people young and old but would do best in a quiet house with older children.
*CAR: She is doing well now. When she first came in to IDOG she didn’t know what a car was and was afraid of it.
*HOUSE TRAINED: yes. She may regress as she transitions to her new home. Her new family should be patient and understanding of this.
*LEASH: Penny has gone for a few walks with a harness and leash and will need more training. When something startles her, you need to be aware of her next move as she may be frightened and could be a flight risk. We double leash and harness Penny when we take her for walks.
*GROOMING: Penny recently went to the groomer and did very well. The groomer stated "Penny did great allowing her to bathe, cut her hair and clip her nails. Penny was a little nervous at first getting onto the table but eventually relaxed.
Meet Pretty Penny-OH!
Penny is a sweet 4 year old female Goldendoodle who lived all of her life outside as a mill momma having puppies. She was rescued by a wonderful lady and transferred to IDOG with the hopes of giving her an amazing new life where she would be a cherished family member.
Here is what her amazing foster mom, Jolene, has to say about Penny:
When I picked up Penny she was shaved to the skin, malnourished, very scared and skittish and in dire need of a bath. She was very afraid of the bath and we believe it may have been her first bath in 4 years.
Upon arriving home, we introduced Penny to a large fenced yard and her foster dog siblings. She did well with them but was fearful around people. Penny's biggest challenge was entering the house. We spent a lot of time trying to get her through the door. Once inside Penny froze and didn't want to leave the laundry room. Penny spent a few hours there before she decided to explore the rest of the house. Penny was afraid to eat her food and would not let you get near or touch her. Her safe place seemed to be outside; but once outside it was a struggle to get her to come back in.
Penny has now been with her foster parents for a little over three months and WOW what a transformation! From the day we brought Penny home she has only had one accident in the house and that was due to her being afraid as we were trying to approach her. Penny is fully house trained but her new home should expect she will have an accident or two until she adjusts to her new home.
Penny has become very comfortable with her surroundings and the people in her foster home. Penny is very cautious when she meets new people and will not allow them to get close as she does not trust them; she will run the other way. It takes her a while to learn to trust people.
Penny loves to eat and loves cookies but is slow to take them from your hand as she isn’t quite sure if she can trust you. Penny has counter-surfed a few times…which we take as a good sign of behaving like a normal dog!
Penny is not crated as she was very afraid of it and became very stressed when inside her crate. Penny sleeps by the side of the bed in her foster parents' home. In the morning she will place her chin on the bed and lick your wanting to be petted.
Penny does well in the car now. She was very unsure at first and would just lay in the back seat and wouldn’t move. Recently we find her moving around from side to side and sitting up looking out the window.
Penny has been seen on occasion to pick up a toy and attempt to play. While outside Penny will run and play with the other dogs but many times you will find Penny just laying in the yard watching what is going on. Penny has recently been found to steal my boots that were left outside the door and start chewing on them. She is becoming more comfortable in her environment and is starting to act like a dog!
She would do best in a calm home with a routine; she does not like when you yell or raise your voice; she will run and hide.
Once Penny feels comfortable with the people in her home, she is a loving and very sweet dog. Penny feels most comfortable when you come down to her level and sit on the floor and pet her. Each time we come into the house from the outside we wipe paws and Penny now know the routine and will give you her paw.
Penny will need a need a home with a fenced yard and a family that has the time and patience to continue to work with her continuing to help her overcome her previous fears from the puppy mill. Penny will need time to acclimate to her new family. You should be prepared that she will not be your lap dog right away and will likely be skittish and shy for a while when transitioning to her new home. Penny will need to trust her new family before she will feel comfortable.
Adjectives that describe Penny:

Loving
Skittish

Penny is up to date on core vaccines, spayed, microchipped and house-trained. She is heartworm negative & current on heartworm/flea/tick preventives.
