My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster Homes Needed!

Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog?

*****************

Taco is super sweet, smart, gentle and could be trained as a personal service or therapy dog. He loves his toys, good on his leash, affectionate, and he loves being petted.  He’s active and playful, knows some commands and is the perfect buddy dog.  He’s confident and outgoing, but a gentle boy and he’s a nice size for urban living. Taco was surrendered with his two brothers, Tony, Tatum and sister, Tina. He is dog friendly, not aggressive at all, and not food aggressive. He is very athletic, and can leap high in the air from the ground, he could be taught to retrieve a ball or frisbe !  He loves adults and children, and will be a great family dog.  Taco is a black lab mix boy, about four years old and about 60 lbs, all black with white chest and toes, with a short-medium coat.  He is all vetted and ready for his new home.  Please email Dee at k9rescueva@gmail.com with any questions and to meet this sweet boy.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our process is the application which can be completed either online or at one of our adoption events. We would then conduct an interview with all members of the household. We do a vet reference if applicable, and lastly, we do a home visit. Our adoption fee is $285 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all required vaccines, tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and on year-round heartworm preventative. Lastly, all dogs are microchipped.

More about this rescue

Mutt Love Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
