My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Spooky von Halloween is a stunning retriever/shepherd mix puppy who is looking for a loving forever home! This gorgeous guy with the softest floppy retriever ears and four white paws will melt your heart as he gazes on you with his big brown eyes. Spooky’s temperament is delightfully balanced between playful and cuddly, reflecting the finest attributes of his two primary breeds -- he makes an engaging playmate for his 90-lb foster fur brother, yet also loves to be held and snuggled by the small grandkids. Spooky mellows out nicely after an active morning of play, which usually includes tug-of-war and chasing the ball, then seeks a warm lap or cushion for a well-deserved nap. His foster mommy reports that Spooky is almost completely housebroken, uses the doggie door, and can sleep quietly in his pen up to 8 hours…..quite an accomplishment for such a youngster! This happy, healthy pup is being well socialized with two and four-legged fosters while he waits for you. Please ‘treat’ yourself this Halloween and bring little Spooky home with you!

Spooky von Halloween is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
