My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chewie is a beautiful silver almost 4-year-old Yorkie. He is 10.8 pounds of adorableness. Chewie is being fostered in Vero Beach, Florida. Dogs being fostered in Florida must be adopted within the State of Florida.

Chewie (Florida)
Updated Bio 9/28/22: Chewie is a wonderful little guy and has settled nicely into his foster home. He has had a vet check and is a healthy boy. Although he has an underbite and some crooked teeth, it doesn't stop him from eating and enjoying treats, or from being very cute. All of the neighbors say he has a lot of personality, and we agree. Chewie was sneezing like crazy when he arrived, so he was taking an antihistamine for seasonal allergies. The sneezing has stopped and he hasn't needed the medication for a few days.

Chewie loves all people and is usually friendly, but can be submissive to us. Sometimes he is shy, especially if he sees another dog. He isn't very interested in them, and it's hard to say how he will do with other dogs in his new home, as we don't have any resident dogs at this time. We are pretty sure that he would prefer to be an only dog, but another small dog would be considered for the right home. However, it's doubtful he will be a good companion or playmate for them. We also don't know about cats or children. He isn't a big barker but will tell me when someone is here. He is also learning to play with toys. When he first got here he just ignored them now if hears one squeak, it's game on!!

Chewie craves attention and will let you know with the faintest little whine if he is being ignored, which to him, is most of the time. He loves to be petted, with belly rubs with ear scratches being his favorite. If you stop, he will paw at you until you start again. Chewie also loves to be brushed. He will roll over so you can get his belly, then throw his head back so you can get under his chin. He does not like to be left alone, so he will need someone who is home most of the time or someone that will take him with them. He is good on car rides and well behaved in the places that I have taken him. He is a lap dog. If what you seek is a lap dog, Chewie might be for you. Most of the time he sleeps right next to me unless he gets too hot, then I will find him in his bed.

It didn't take Chewie very long to find and use the "potty patch" outside. He will ask to go out and if you watch for the signs, he paces in front of the door. He sleeps through the night. A fenced-in yard would be a plus, but not necessary if he can have walks throughout the day. . He is getting better at leash walking but still pulls for rabbits, land crabs, and people. We do have a fence, so I let him outside in the morning. We take walks after breakfast and in the evening.

Chewie is a terrific little dog and will make a great companion. He is getting his teeth cleaned this week, then will be ready to go by October first.
