Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Vader has been in his foster home for a few weeks and his foster mom wrote some info on what she has learned so far.
"(Vader) is still very people attached. He loves people and wants to be right next to them and definitely aims to please. It seems like he’s had some degree of formal training because he knows sit, stay, lay down. Seemed to know “heel” and he takes to hand cues like he already knows them. I think maybe he was trained and a previous owner just couldn’t handle his energy or size or didn’t exercise him enough. He acts so much like a lab - doesn’t know his size and just throws his body around lol. Loooves water. He pokes his head into the shower to lap up water and look around, and he sucks down water. We actually have to regulate his water because he’ll drink it all up immediately if it’s there. Frantic eater so I’ve been spreading his kibble and I’m buying a slow feeder. He does show food and water aggression now that he’s settled in. He growls if you give him attention or stand very close to him while he’s eating. Hasn’t bared teeth at all, just a low growl. Vader and our dog have mostly limited contact but they get to spend some of their yard time together and we walk them together and have some supervised inside time. Vader is good in his bedroom but does have some attachment anxieties. He’ll whine, bark, scratch at the doorframe for up to 5 minutes and then he self soothes and goes to sleep. We let him sleep in our bedroom the other night on blankets and he did great. He did drink all of the water again but he didn’t try to play or bother Cal, he just went to sleep. We are still up in the air about adopting because of our dog and deployment next year. We love him but we do also want to network him because if he’s able to find a home where he can play with other dogs his size that want to play or maybe an active family, I think that he would be the most enriched. He’d probably do best in a home with older children because his body during play would knock littlest over and he doesn’t understand he can’t run and jump into people. Not seen him with cats yet so not sure but personally I would default to maybe not because of his high play drive and size. He’s got some naughty pup habits but I think it’s just unfocused energy. He gets 1-2 walks a day (2 is the norm but busy days may be 1 long one) and he definitely needs a good daily exercise session. He’s really a great dog. Haha when you pet him if you touch his belly at all he just throws his body and flops over to get belly rubs. 😂 He gets excited and wants to try to eat the toothbrush, but he loves getting his teeth brushed, did great with nails at the vet, and is fine with his paw balm (wiggly but not bothered). He does have a nibbling habit that we redirect with toys. He does also need to be watched with toys that can break off or stuffies. He thinks anything that goes in his mouth that can be eaten, should be attempted. He’s only had one accident and that’s likely because he sucked down a bunch of water before bed and we didn’t catch it and make him potty one more time. Entirely potty trained."
