This sweet face with the big brown eyes belongs to Waffles, a roughly 6 year old boy who somehow found himself lost. He showed up at a nice person`s house who told us he was very friendly, so she tried to keep him. Waffles did fine with her dog, the cows, and the horses, but her dog decided he didn`t want Waffles to move in. Waffles clearly had an owner as he also seems to know the `sit` and `stay` commands. Wouldn`t you like to have this sweet boy`s handsome face to look at every day?
A volunteer told us, `Waffles is ready to enjoy his golden years in a loving home. He is friendly, outgoing, and easy to interact with. He is treat motivated and will sit for treats. He is also good on leash, making him an ideal companion for walks.`
Foster notes: Waffles is very independent and sweet. He prefers to be outside. He likes to go on hikes with me and my 2 dogs. He gets along with my dogs and cats, but prefers to be alone I think. He has gotten along with all the people he has met. All adults, both male and female. He has gotten along with the 3 other dogs he’s met, all male, small and large.
He is housetrained and has had no accidents in the house. He was in crate for first night and did well. We let him stay out after that. He’s not at all destructive, not a chewer. I don’t leave him out alone with my 2 dogs and 3 cats just to be safe. He resource guards, but only with the other animals. He has nipped at my cat, but was corrected right away and hasn’t done it since. He’s a very fast learner and takes correction well. He really is a nice dog! So smart and so trainable.

If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov and let us know you want to go ahead and adopt. You can still meet the pet before finalizing the adoption to make sure they are a great fit for you.
Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. You can see the current status of available pets on our website. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will be updated back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. Our website automatically updates every hour and displays all pets at BAS Pet Adoption & Resource Center or foster.
Visitation and adoption of pets in foster must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. Email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit or adoption of a pet in foster care.

Closed on Sundays and Holidays
Pets receive vaccines, testing, and preventatives appropriate for their species and age, as well as any necessary treatments. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered. BAS adopters also receive exclusive discounts on food, veterinary care, training, and more through our partners. All this is included in the adoption!
Adoption fees are very low and are sometimes waived as part of regular adoption special events through out the year. To see our current adoption fees and specials, visit burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS. Our goal is to ensure every pet has a positive outcome and gets to live life with a loving family.
To take home a pet, adopters or fosters only need to present a government-issued photo ID and be at least 18 years old. There is NO lengthy paperwork to fill out and NO intrusive or lengthy process.
