Dog's Name: Carter (CAR0921CHEMD)
Estimated Breed: Labrador Retriever mix
Approximate Age: 4 years
Approximate Weight: 60 lbs
Currently Living at: Foster
Adoption Fee: $400
DOG'S DESCRIPTION: What a handsome fellow!! Carter is a timid boy who is very unsure of new things. Once acclimated to his surroundings and routine he's great! He will do best with an adopter who is loving, patient, and willing to give him the time he needs to build his trust. He is bonded with Violet who is a little less nervous about people than Carter is, and another confident dog in the household will also show Carter how awesome life can be. Carter would not thrive in an apartment or busy city, so a more rural single family home with a large fenced yard is the best fit for him. He is VERY dog friendly and loves to play with any dog you put him with. Carter and Violet do wonderfully together, with a very solid routine, and will make great "farm dogs" where they can be allowed to relax and play together...that's all they want in life.
Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.
Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets.
