Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Miss Izzy is ready for her furever home! She is a little black tri girl with beautiful brindle highlights. She is around 10 months old and 35 lbs with a svelte body and a full, beautiful tail that is usually wagging.
This sweet girl came to ASF from the recent Kentucky floods but her story sadly involved abuse at the hands of her drunken owner. She was taken to the shelter by his family when they witnessed him hit her with a 2x4. She was very weak when she first got to her foster home but with good nutrition and daily exercise, she has regained her strength and is an active girl. X-rays show that she does have some dysplasia in her left hip which may have originated from the abuse she suffered. The veterinarian suggested she be re-examined at 18 months when her growth plates have closed. That being said, she is not limited physically in any way.
Izzy still has a lot of cute puppy mannerisms. She loves to play with toys and chew on bones. She could easily be an only dog that gets all the attention or in a home with another playmate. Izzy loves to play with the 2 dogs that she is being fostered with, and has enjoyed meeting the neighbors and their dogs.
Despite her abusive beginnings, it speaks to the gentleness of her spirit that she is sweet to everyone she meets, men and women alike. She adores her foster dad. She has not been around children in her foster home but given her sweet personality, we feel she would do well with older, respectful children.
She is a medium energy dog with a nice off switch. She takes treats gently and has no food or toy aggression. Izzy rides beautifully in a car and she is learning to walk nicely on a leash with an Easy Walk harness. She does not react to people walking but she does get very excited when she sees another dog. We have taken her out to some pet friendly stores and she has excellent manners. She goes easily into her crate with a treat or two and sleeps quietly all night though she wouldn't mind sharing your bed if you let her.
Izzy is definitely treat motivated, and loves her meals so much that she is using a slow feeder bowl to slow her down a bit. Although she will bark when someone is at the door, she is a mostly quiet dog who loves to be near you. She loves attention and will follow you everywhere. This girl is all love. She doesn't like to be approached quickly or loudly because she thinks she's in trouble and will cower because of what happened to her in her previous home.
Her foster mom promised Izzy that no one would ever hurt her again. She needs a home that will continue to train her with gentle, positive reinforcement so that she continues to gain the confidence that her previous owner tried to take away from her. Not this girl. She's a survivor.
Izzy is being fostered in Louisville, Ky. All adoption fees are used to help other furbabies like Izzy.
