Here's what the humans have to say about me:

As a 2-year-old Catahoula mix, Nikko's got loads of energy and will make a fun companion! He is protective of his people and skeptical of strangers. We know there is a place for him to reach his full potential and live his best life! He is sweet with the people he trusts and is a precious angel baby who leans into you, loves neck and chest scratches, and will look deep in your eyes. He does great with other dogs and even goes to our play groups! He would do best in a home with no children, as he is already nervous with new people. He is very loyal to his people and will make a wonderful companion for someone willing to put in the work to win his heart!

Their adoption process

1.
Submit Application

Please submit an application in person or online for any animal you're interested in meeting. You may list multiple names on a single app.

2.
Approve Application

We will give you a call to let you know if you're approved if you filled it out online. If done in person, we will inform you at that time.

3.
Meet the Pet

Once your app is approved, you can meet the animals you're interested in! We will have you meet one at a time in a meet and greet room.

4.
Pay Fee

After we've gone over the animal's file and answered any questions you may have, you'll pay the adoption fee and finalize the adoption.

5.
Take the Pet Home

Congratulations on your new family member! Most animals can go home with you the same day you meet them. (Medical adopts may vary)

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees vary for cats and dogs by age:

Cats over 7 years old: $25
Cats ages 6 months - 7 years: $50
Cats under 6 months old: $75

Dogs over 7 years old: $75
Dogs ages 6 months - 7 years: $175
Dogs under 6 months old: $300

All adoption fees include up-to-date vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchip. You must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid photo ID, and any current animals in the home must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccine in order to adopt. We are located at 3161 W. Norton Rd in Springfield, Missouri. Please swing by the shelter during our adoption hours to see all of our adoptable pets - no appointment is needed! You may also view our adoptable animals online at SWH.ORG.

Our adoption hours are as follows:
Monday-Saturday: 12-6pm
Sunday: 12-5pm

The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization incorporated in 1956 and licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Funding for the organization comes from private donations. We do not receive any funding from any government agencies. We are the largest No Kill shelter in Southwest Missouri. No Kill means we do not believe in euthanizing animals for space, and we are dedicated to finding a home for every animal that comes through our doors.

We receive our animals from people giving up their pets for a variety of reasons, including changes in family situations and moving. Some of our animals have been strays rescued from the streets by a kind citizen. All of our animals are looking for permanent and loving forever homes!
