Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi my name is Nova! I’m 7 months old and I’m your typical Australian Shepherd. I am ENERGETIC, PLAYFUL, and a VELCRO puppy. I LOVE food. I will learn and do anything for a snack or my meals! When my foster-sister is almost done eating her food, sometimes when my foster-mom isn’t looking, I’ll sneak over and sneak my foster-sisters food since she’ll let me. I’m a growing girl!
I’m going to need a mom and/or dad who can keep me busy! I LOVEEEE water. I will sit in the baby pool alllll day and run around with toys in the yard. Anything I can get ahold of is a toy. Life is very fun with me once you give me about 2 weeks to show me I can trust you. My first few homes didn’t like me being so energetic… but I’m just being an Aussie! I’m a working breed. I need a job, an activity to do, or something to learn! It’s a must! I’ll find my own fun if you leave me with all this energy.
My foster-mom says I’m a bed hog… I just think beds are the best… and couches! I love to be on those and sleep with the humans. At night, once I trust you, I’ll give you my belly to rub as you fall asleep! It’s a win-win!
Here are some things I like: snuggles and scratches on the ears, food - fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses, squeaky toys and chasing the frisbee, running around with other dogs and playing rough with them, barking at the fedex guy and mailman from the window, playing in water and the hose, and seeing/learning new things! I love car rides and going on walks to sniff things. I make friends everywhere I go, big and small dogs. I would do best with another dog in the house to play with!
Things I need work on: I bark a lot at first but as soon as I can trust you, I’m ALL about hugs and kisses and playing with you. I like looking at chickens and bunnies through the fence. I’ve been introduced to them, but as a puppy, I’m still learning what “calm and gentle” means, I just get SO excited to see new things. I’m not aggressive though. I just do big nose boops! My recall needs some work. I don’t know many tricks, but I can learn!
Note from foster-mom: This is a great young Aussie, who with training and patience, will be a fantastic dog. She has a working-line figure and coat. She takes corrections from other dogs and myself very well. She is not aggressive and doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She is a playful puppy who NEEDS a job, a playmate, or a human who will tire each other out. She’s curious, follows me everywhere, and after two weeks of being with me, completely opened up and trusted me enough to let me scratch her belly.
She needs TIME and TRAINING to have good manners. She knows no personal space once she opens up to you… she wants to be everywhere you are, right under your feet. She is SO willing to learn, especially for food, and she wants to have something to do. If left alone, full of energy, she will find something to chew and make it her own toy (puppy behavior).
Nova would be best in a home with another dog to play with and a human, familiar with the breed, who WILL train her to have good manners and be a good canine citizen. She hasn’t had that chance yet and she deserves it. She barks a lot at first, we’ve been working on it, but it’ll takes time. She needs exposure to the world. Each time we bring her out, it gets better and better. I have no doubt, she will make a great adventure buddy.
No exposure to children, cats, or livestock.
**This is not a dog that can be in a crate all day and then expect to chill on the couch when you get home from work. A short walk will not do. She needs to be worked, played with, and trained good manners**
