Walter and Edna were left in a house in a small wire cage when people moved out. The people coming to clear out the junk to prepare the house to re-rent discovered the emaciated and dehydrated pair along with a full litter of half grown babies in the same condition. The feces was deep and all the bunnies were a tan/orange color. At intake, we did NOT realize that the bunnies were actually black and white under the filth.
As we picked up the rabbits, our fingers were burning and that's when we realized they were covered top to bottom in feces and urine.
Two of the babies died. Walter was inconsolable and both he and Edna were on the verge of death themselves.
Their recovery was nothing short of miraculous. Their fur was so thin, we could see skin, especially over their protruding hip bones.
They then went into a loving home where they were free roaming companion pets. But then Covid hit and the family had to suddenly move out of state due to a job situation that they could not afford to pass up. They had to sell their home and move into an apartment and could not take the rabbits. So, they came back to foster care.
They are about 4-5 years old now, we believe. Walter and Edna love each other very much and bring peace and love with them, wherever they go. They are fun to watch and do love treats and to be petted and loved on. Walter is the boss. Edna is shy.
Currently in foster care in Greenville but we can make arrangements for them to be seen in the Laurens or Columbia areas for approved adopters as needed.
