Here's what the humans have to say about me:
I HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE MY PAINFUL EYE. CAN YOU HELP ME?
UPDATED BIO 06/26/2010: Hi there! I just had to share some wonderful news! I went for a checkup to see the Dogtor. He told my Foster Mommy that he thought I was around 6-7 years old. I'm so excited! I think that might mean I'll get adopted soon..... right? Foster mommy also checked my bloodwork again to be 100% sure everything was OK. Guess what? It came back PERFECT! So there! Now that must REALLY mean I'll get a new home soon, right? OK, then. I'll be waiting for my new furever family right here! Thanks for reading about me and letting me share my pawsome news!
UPDATED BIO 06/02/2010: Hey! It's Randy here. I have been so busy working with FM to get my eye all better. We were a good team because my right eye is doing great and my left eye, which had to be removed due to severe glaucoma, is completely healed. When my bangs grow back on that side it won't even be noticeable. I am not sure it even is now because when FM takes me on walks and I introduce myself to her neighbors, most of them don't even notice. None of that matters to me because it was so painful before and now it doesn't hurt at all. Some happy news is that when I had my first dental in my life, the dogtor only had to take out one tooth. The sad news is that whoever owned me did not take care of me and I was already missing many of my front teeth. The back ones are good to go and I even eat dry food. In fact, FM and my dogtor aren't sure I have ever been seen by a vet and we think I am about 8 years old!!! In addition to getting healthy, I have gained 1.5 pounds and am now a healthy 8 pounds.
OH........DID I MENTION THAT I AM HOUSE TRAINED????????? Yep. I last all day while FM is at work and wait for her to let me outside to do my thing. I have had an occasional pee-pee in the house but FM knows it is because she left me way too long without a walk.
Because my right eye is susceptible to glaucoma, I require 3 eye drops twice a day in my right eye to keep anything bad from happening because I see very well with my good eye. One of the drops, Xalatran, is very expensive but my FM found it in a Canadian pharmacy and it is only 25.00 a bottle there as opposed to 80.00 here. It is actually a glaucoma medicine for humans. FM has purchased enough of all three for me to bring with me that should last at least 6 months.
I am ready for a furever home. Ideally it would be one without children and someone who just wants to let me warm their lap and walk me. I am a people dog and very loyal. I follow FM everywhere she goes and love the fact that she lets me sleep in her bed with my sisters. I walk on a leash very well and LOVE to walk outside. FM says I have a lot of spirit in my step. FM introduced me to the cats across the street and it is a little problem because I want to jump on them and play and they were not too pleased. I love my two sisters I am staying with and like to play with them. I made a friend down the street, an 80 pound golden-doodle named Tiki. Those big dogs don't scare tough little me. I would easily love a new brother or sister if there is one in the house. I am also easy to bathe and dry and don't fuss about it at all. It will only take you about 10 minutes to fall in love with me.
UPDATED BIO 04/25/2010: Randy here. I just wanted you all to know that I had my surgery this past week to clean my toofers (I only lost one!...... but I didn't have many left to start :) ) and I had my right eye removed. That's because I could not see out of it and it would only become more and more painful for me as time went on. I'm feeling great and still loving life. I'm on eyedrops that should cost my new mommy or daddy about $30-$40 a month. My foster mommy just adores me and cannot imagine someone not wanting to adopt me because I only have one eye.
Let's see.... if you don't remember, I'm 8 years old (but Foster mommy says I act more like a 4-5 year old playing and running around). I'm 8.5 lbs. I'm fully housetrained and love to be loved on. (Belly rubs are my favorite, please!). I get along with everybody and everypuppy I meet. I'm a handsome little guy whose hair will soon cover up the stitches on my right eye. Won't you please consider giving me a FURever home? I'm not quite ready for adoption yet, but foster mom is taking applications. Thank you!!!
UPDATED BIO 04/19/2010: My name is Randy. I am 8 years old and weigh 8.5 lbs. I was rescued from a high-kill shelter with a painful detached lens in my right eye and an almost-detached lens in my left. Even though it hurt real bad, my foster mommy says I was the sweetest little pumpkin when she pulled me out of the shelter. I AM a good boy. Foster mommy says I'm the bestest puppy she's ever had in her home. I love love love belly rubs and love love love to be near you whenever I can. I'm housetrained, too. :)
I'm going to have to have my really bad eye removed this week. I'm also going to have my toofers cleaned and possibly removed as well. I don't think it's going to be a very good day for me. I trust foster mommy, though. I know it will all be OK. Thank you to everybody and everypuppy who has supported me. I can feel the love from all across the world from my new extended family and hope you know how much my foster mom and I appreciate you! Without you, I wouldn't have had a chance! Once my bad eye is removed and my toofers are all clean (what's left of them! lol) we're going to focus on making my left eye as good as it can be. I may need eyedrops for the rest of my life, but that's OK, right? Do you think there's a chance for a guy like me to find a FURever home? I sure do hope so. Foster mom says I'm a real catch. Wish me luck!
UPDATED BIO 04/03/2010: Randy is an 8 year old 8 lb little man whose only hope at survival was a rescue group, and we were just the rescue group to help this sweet boy. Randy was rescued from a high-kill shelter just 3 weeks ago. He was covered in feces, had intestinal parasites, and severe eye disease. He had a rough first few days in foster care as he had a bout of hypoglycemia, would not eat, had bad diarrhea, and had eye pain. UYR rushed him to the rescue vet and straight to the eye specialist. There it was determined that Randy has severe lens detachment. At the specialist's recommendation, Randy needs to have his right eye removed. This is because the disease in that eye will progress to become more and more painful for him. He has no vision in that eye anymore. We are doing everything in our powers to save his left eye despite the fact that he has less severe eye disease there as well. Randy is currently on 3 eye drops in his "good" eye. We are working closely with the specialist to try and save it. We are waiting to recheck his labwork before he take him back for his enucleation and dental. (His teeth are all rotten and he may lose most of them).
Please continue to keep Randy in your prayers. He is a loving little boy who keeps foster mom laughing. She says he is the best dog by far she has ever had in her home. He is 100% housetrained and loves to go outside for walks. His vision isn't perfect, but he gets around just fine. It's actually getting easy for him as time goes by and he gets used to his new surroundings. Right now his care is very expensive. We appreciate all the help we are getting for Randy and hope we can schedule his surgery soon. Thanks for reading about him!
ORIGINAL BIO 03/15/2010: My name is Randy. I am 8 years old and weigh 7.2 lbs. Today, UYR saved my life. I was left at the same high-kill shelter from which most of my Florida foster fur-brothers and sisters were rescued. Sadly, my story is no better than any of theirs.
My right eye is damaged. The Dogtors at the shelter think that a previous eye injury caused my problem, although we're not sure yet. Tomorrow I am getting a full eye evaluation. From there we will figure out whether my eye is fixable or whether I am going to have to have my eye removed. Since it hurts me right now, having it removed wouldn't be the WORST thing ever.
My FM is just getting to know me, but she wanted to make sure I told you how sweet I am. I love everybody and love cuddles. I'm an older guy and am missing a bunch of teeth, but I am still the cutest baby ever. Can you see past my flaws and love me FURever? xoxo - Randy
