Bandit is a 5 year old Cocker Spaniel with puppy energy who came to Fuzzy Pawz Rescue from an out of state overly full shelter. He was not neutered, had a wicked ear infection, bad teeth and Cherry Eye. This boy handled all of it like a champ and is now medically ready to find a family to call his own.
Bandit can be an dream dog with the right person but he is picky about who is human friends are. If he loves you he loves you deeply and bonds strongly. He can be cuddly and affectionate. He will need just the right home though; he is nervous around strangers and in unfamiliar situations. Most of this is due to his eyesight. Unfortunately Bandit was inbred to get his glorious coat and those eyes. But with that eye color comes vision issues; he has a hard time seeing in light/shadow situations and can scare easily.
He has nipped at two people who tried to bend down and pet him to quickly. He also growls at new people who are loud and in his space. For this reason we need a house with calm temperaments and understanding he won't be a dog park dog without lots of further training. In his foster home he is perfection, but he knows the home, knows how “his” people move and sound – he’s not blind but can appear to be in certain circumstances.
Bandit knows to go outside, but will use the house if it is more convenient so he needs someone to work with him on a routine. His feet are super quiet which is perfect for his counter surfing habit and he likes sneaking his body through small spaces which is great for his taking himself on walks habit. He will need a secure yard and someone to watch to see if he is digging under fences. He barks at every noise so apartments or close grumpy neighbors might not be the best fit. His inside behaviors tell us that he very likely was used as a breeder and he now crave human attention. He would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time and spend some time working on his inside manners.
Even though his house manners are not perfect, he does know how to sit well for a groomer and will need someone to help keep his coat clean. He needs a home with kids over 10 as he can get a little snippy about food he has stolen off the counters but he is dog and cat friendly. He doesn’t seem interested in playing with his dog foster brothers or sisters but loves to play with his humans..
