9-26-2022: A little over a month and little Edelweiss is looking GREAT!! She has such a pretty face now that her hair has grown back. She is still a little thin-- but eating well and doing remarkably well post her spay surgery.
She is a natural retriever and brings the toys back to hand and if she is a littermate to the other 3 pups, she is a mix of GSP/ Brittany and there might be a little bully in her genetics. She is also doing really well with playing nicely with the other dogs after a few days as her confidence is building.
While her first tick panel was negative-- I still think follow up blood work might show at least Rocky Mountain spotted fever as the antibiotics really helped her body fight off the mites in record time and she did have some suspicious anemia. I have her on some immune system boosters too that will also help her brain health as she has some fear issues. She was such a small puppy in a very scary shelter at about 4 months old and was there 2 months longer than her littermates and I think that might have caused some of her fear and trust problems. Once she feels safe-- she could not be a more loving puppy. She has growled at strangers on leash.
We are looking for a loving adopter in the Chicago area that have a safe fenced in yard and she really needs confident playful companions. She has been very safe with kids. I am hopeful with some work and some training classes, she will overcome some of her fear issues as she is such a fun puppy when she feels safe.
8-20-2022: Edelweiss is a precious Brittany/German Shorthair mixed breed 8 month old puppy that was going to be killed in an over-crowded shelter in Arkansas. We think she is a littermate to our "Stranger Things" litter from June as she looks similar including the pretty lighter brown markings around her face and legs. She was suffering from terrible neglect and was malnourished when she was saved. She is also fighting some adolescent, non-contagious mange. Thankfully we were contacted and arranged for her to be flown to the Chicago suburbs and she is safe in foster care. In a month she should look like a different dog as the mites die and her hair grows back on her face.
