My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Nissa
Nickname: Nissie. The Bebe. Gremlin. Gizmo. Giz.
Breed: She's a bully breed mutt...Pitbull. Bulldog. AmStaff.
Weight: 54 pounds
Sex: Female
Age: ~1.5 years
Before OMD: Found as a stray tied up outside the city shelter. We took one look at that mug and knew we had to make room for her in the OMD Rescue fam.
Medical: Let's not beat around the bush...our girl is a backyard breeding mess coupled with really bad genetics. She's only 1.5 years old and x-rays show she has spondylosis in her back, mild hip dysplasia, and mild osteoarthritis in her knees. She gets around just fine and acts like a total puppy, but she does show signs of pain and sensitivity at times and takes gabapentin daily. Yes, these conditions will likely worsen as she ages, so her adopter will need to be dedicated to keeping her at a healthy weight and managing any pain with supplements, therapy and medication.
Energy level: Medium-high. She's no couch potato. Doggy playtime usually suffices but if there's none of that, she'll require walks and some fun enrichment.
Physical and Personality Doppelgänger: What's the antithesis of a proper lady?
Key descriptors: Hilarious. Cartoonish. Wrinkly. Friendly. Opinionated. Cuddly.
What we love: Her fat, rolly puppy legs and paws. Her face, head tilts, and the fact that her tail is crooked and always standing straight up. The way she stares into your soul and makes you question every decision you’ve ever made. How super gentle she is when taking treats. How she hippity-hops around on all four of her chunky legs when she wants to play.
Her favorite things: Food. Treats. Walks. Yelling at you. Snuffle mats. Frozen peanut butter Kongs. LickiMats. Terrorizing her foster brothers. Car rides.
Her least favorite thing: When her humans have the audacity to do anything other than giving her 100% of your attention. How dare you not hold and pet her with both of your hands and feet. And even then, she’ll often still complain it's not enough. Basically, she's needy AF.
Stranger Danger Level: None. Zero. Zilch. She wants to say hello to everyone. If she hears a human voice three blocks away, she’s like "let’s go, I need to get pets from that stranger immediately."
What she knows: Sit. Down. Place. Crate. Wait. Watch me. Heel. Leave it. Paw.
What she is working on: Not attacking foster mom's shoes as she puts them on. Whining less. Well, honestly she isn’t working on it at all. But if you enjoy the soothing melodies of a baby sea lion with marbles in her mouth, combined with Gizmo from Gremlins…she’s your dream come true.
Kids: 12+. She doesn’t love quick movements or fast hands of little ones.
Dogs: Yep! She would be best suited with a very tolerant, playful dog. She's currently learning how to be less of an annoying little sister; she's a quick learner and doing great. She’s playful, but prefers to be chased over heavy contact. She currently lives with two larger, older, chill males that want you to adopt her ASAP. Like, now. Larry and Frank have approved your application, come get your girl.
Cats: Yep. Did just fine with the kitten she met.
Crate-trained: Yes. She goes right in, often without being asked, and does great once you leave the room. You’ll often find her chilling in her crate when it’s open, but if she can see you she’ll still yell at you (see above re: baby seal/gremlin) as if she didn’t make that choice herself.
House-trained: 100%. She sits in front of the door when she needs to go out. She takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to find an acceptable place to poop, so you must have poop patience.
