My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Brooklyn!

Hi there. My name is Brooklyn, I’m 6 years old and 18 pounds. My beautiful coat is growing back in. I can't wait since cold weather is coming. See, I came from a puppy mill where they shave us to keep us clean. I've never experienced love till my foster parents took me in, and now I'm looking forward to having a family of my own.

I have found that sleeping in a dog bed is nice, but sleeping on the sofa with you is even better. I am an independent girl that just likes to have her people around. I’m finding that I do like to get my ears, chin, belly and butt scratched once I get comfortable with you. I have a cute way of reaching out my paw to ask for more scratches!

I am getting the hang of doing my business outside, and have gotten much better at it by sticking to a routine. I would benefit if my family was home more than not or could get home on a lunch break. I get along well with other dogs that are my size and smaller. I have not met any big dogs yet, but I bet I would be fine. I would love it if I had a confident, easy going fur sibling to continue to show me how to be a beloved family dog. But if there isn't another dog, that is okay too. I could do fine with respectful children 13 and older. Young ones would scare me, so I might not do well living with them and I would be terribly sad if I accidently hurt them. I have discovered that I have a voice and especially like to use it when you come back after being gone for the day, so apartment life would not be the best for me.

I have figured out plush toys are fun to pull apart and chew bones are great for my teeth. Lots of noises and fast movements can set me running away or cowering but I have already come a long way in a short time, so having patience with me will help me tremendously. The basic household noises are okay with me now. Please just remember I had a sheltered life.

My new family should have a fenced yard to keep me safe. They will need some patience and understanding and be willing to take me to some classes, and work with me, teach me that the big world, including leashes, isn’t so scary.

I sure hope my new family will love me and adore me and want me for who I am. I promise to learn to trust and love them right back! Can you maybe be my new family?

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
