UPDATE 02/01/06: Why is Scout still here? Is it because of her tail? The fly-away ears? The black spotted tongue or her underbite? Nobody knows - but what WE know is that she is a WONDERFUL dog to have in the house. To be honest, those who have met her are in love - she is far prettier in person! Her personality will win you over every single time! Crate trained, housebroken, playful, and all round sweet amd silly - what more could you ask for?
OK, OK, I'll admit it - she does have a bad habit - she hates having her nails trimmed. However, nail trims are part of a weekly grooming routine for all of the dogs here, and she has learned that just because she makes 'wookie' noises and gets mouthy, we are not going to stop. So, she tolerates it. She would much rather be sleeping, and doing anything other than getting her nails trimmed - but her reward is a fun game of fetch - something we ONLY do after nail trimming (well, in the house that is - outside we do fetch alot!).
Anything else? Well, she can be pushy for attention - from people and dogs - barking at either for petting frompeople or to get a dog to play with her. We do our best not to give in to her barking - instead making her do some quick obedience such as 'sit' and 'give paw' before we pet her so she learns that she isn't going to get attention because she wants it - she needs to earn it - the dogs either 'yell' at her or play with her when she gets pesty with them.
She rides well in the car, preferring to have a nose out the window to smell the world going by. She greets people with a wagging tail and sits clamly for petting - sometimes turning her back to you and giving you a shy but playful glance over her shoulder - very flirty!
Her perfect home? Hmmm...just about anywhere! She can live with cats, but the cats must have a safe place to go to get awayfromher as she is learning that cats are not to be chased - she will 'watch' the cat and try to sneak up on her, but if you call her, she'll come to you, as long as she isn't in chase mode - she can learn to live peacefully with a cat as long as her adoptive family is willing to work with her. She has lived with small dogs, bunnies, and kids.
Due to her style of play - pawing and jumping, and sometimes getting mouthy when excited, we recommend kids over 12 years old. Scout has mentioned that she would love a canine companion in her forever home - one that will chase her and also likes to be chased, so that she can get rid of her bubbling energy!
Scout is about 2 years old, spayed, tattooed, up to date on her vaccinations, HW negative and on preventative, crate trained, and housebroken. She is currently in foster in CT, along with Sienna, her sister in rescue, and two male rottweilers and a lab mix.
